Yahoo ! News

A small military jet crashed in northwestern Iran on Monday, killing the commander of the ground forces of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards and at least 12 other people, state media said.

The Guards commander who died was identified as Gen. Ahmad Kazemi, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported, quoting Guards spokesman Gen. Masoud Jazayeri. The agency said 10 other military officers also were killed.

The plane was trying to make an emergency landing at Oroumieh, about 560 miles northwest of Tehran near the Turkish border, when its landing gear jammed, preventing the wheels from being fully deployed, state media reported.

The reports did not explain why the plane was trying to make an emergency landing.

A Month ago there was another Airplane Crash happening in Iran - a Military Airplanes, full of Journalists that was flying them to a Military Exercise, crashed in 10-storey apartment building near Tehran.

In 2003, a Russian-made Ilyushin-76 carrying Guards members crashed in the mountains of southeastern Iran, killing 302 people.

Weird, how the Aircraft Accidents in Iran Tend to involve Military planes.

And to top it all, the Commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard was killed Today.

While Iran is a fairly good sized country, they are operating mostly older military and commercial planes, many of which they can no longer get spare parts for. Older airplane + no spares = high accident rate.

Thats it exunctly!

The first pilot to get assigned this flight refused to fly as it was already having technical difficulties before take off.

Seems he was right.

The ageing plane - bought before the 1979 revolution - experienced technical problems and a first pilot refused to fly it, according to reports.

Agreed.

Iran has Problems with Obtaining Spare Parts, either from US side, for trade embargo makes it impossible for Iran to buy parts for its old US-built aircraft - and the Accident that happened one Month ago was a US-built aircraft a C-130 transport plane.

And now it is Falcon - a small Jet Aircraft, made in France.

We are not talking about some Old Soviet Made Ilyushin, that is falling apart.

Still - I have a Hunch that this Aircraft Crash was no Accident...

If the plane had technical difficulties, why would they fly it? Its no ones fault but those who decided this plane was fit to fly. So, what are you implying Souljah? I dont get it, because it was a US plane its the US' fault?
If they would have the good sense to service the plane it wouldnt happen, and if they couldnt get parts, that plane should be grounded. Its their own fault that this accident happen if they flew the plane despite technical problems.

The Falcon is a French built plane. VIPs have a tendency to put a lot of pressure on flight crews to go, even when the plane is broken. Even if they don't actively push the crews to go with a broken airplane, depending on the VIP, just their presence puts pressure on the crew to take the plane even with problems. Some VIPs have even pushed crews to go, no matter what.

As far as sabotage, or anything else, why would the rig the plane so that it would show up BEFORE take off? Sometimes, planes just crash, no matter who is on them.

From what I've read, the U.S. planes that Iran has are so old that spare parts available from myriad sources, and the embargo really has no impact on Iran's ability to maintain these aircraft.

Maybe God is answering American and Israeli prayers?
