Let´s hope not.

What is really interesting is the lack of moderate earthquakes today (the 12th). On the other hand, the following have occured:

2.8 OFFSHORE WASHINGTON
2.6 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
2.6 GREATER LOS ANGELES AREA, CALIFORNIA

Furthermore,
2.6 HAWARII REGION, HAWAII
4.3 BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION

And
2.8 MOUNT ST. HELENS AREA, WASHINGTON

I see I am not the only one who believes that something is happening & could happen in the nearby future...

(Data extracted from the Source: USGS recents quakes

TONGA!

A moderate earthquake occurred today in TONGA: Magnitude 5.2

Location 17.945°S, 173.174°W
Depth 10 km (6.2 miles) set by location program
Region TONGA

Distances
115 km (70 miles) NE of Neiafu, Tonga
230 km (140 miles) SSE of Hihifo, Tonga
415 km (260 miles) NNE of NUKU'ALOFA, Tonga
2400 km (1490 miles) NNE of Auckland, New Zealand

external image

Following the quakes we had during the past days, I would say that Tonga confirms the increase in activity we were talking before.

Should we worry?

I do not know, but we´ll have to continue investigating, with a very close eye to the Earth´s tectonic activity.

I hope that all this activity is enough to free some of the accumulated energy, and so a major earthquake can be avoided.

Here in Portugal I only remember feeling 5 or 6 earthquakes in my life (42 years), the last two of them in 2005, the year that saw some events to mark the 250th "birthday" of the biggest esrthquake in Portuguese history.

But this is one of those many things we really did not understand enough to make predictions, so lets just see what happens.
