Magnitude 4.8 - SOUTHERN IRAN

I know Iran has a history of quakes, but it never fails to cross my mind if some of these could be caused by construction and possible military testing done underground.

also has anyone noticed a trend or anything odd about the quakes in the Leeward island and Galapagos? it seems to me like the Caribbean area in general has suddenly become a little more active.

However, this one is well away from the 'cluster' of the last few days, not sure if this is a good or bad thing, maybe things have calmed down there somewhat.

Well, I am not a geologist but I agree it seems there is a significant increase of tectonic activity these days and that the Seram quake could trigger something bigger.

Furthermore, the solar activity increased too.

The last Solar Alert said as follows:

No significant activity is expected on the Sun, except for
some B sub-flares mainly from new active region Catania#15/NOAA0860.
As predicted yesterday, over the last few hours, the Earth has entered a
high speed solar wind stream originating in an extension of the Southern
polar coronal hole. The wind velocity has now reached 550km/s and the
interplanerary magnetic field got stronger and turbulent, with 5 to 10nT
fluctuations of the Bz component.
However, as Bz seems to remain predominantly positive (Northward), we expect the geomagnetic field to remain mostly unsettled, with possible active periods occuring mainly over the next 24 hours. Thereafter, this moderate activity should subside.

New activity seemed to start following the asteroid coming near earth in early March (the 6th?) - IMO small echoes may have initiated a resonance, heightened by solar activity. Looks like a big one might be on the way.

Three die in tsunami

JAKARTA: Three people have been killed and another is missing after an earthquake triggered a tsunami that struck eastern Indonesia, wiping away a village on a remote island. The quake, between 6.4 and 6.7 in magnitude, triggered a seven-metre-high tsunami on Tuesday that struck Pela village on Buru Island.

The deputy mayor, Bakri Lumbessy, said the tsunami swept away the village and destroyed 116 houses, forcing the evacuation of more than 1200 people. "The villagers from Pela ran to a mountain about five kilometres away for refuge," he said.

Separately, 10,000 villagers living close to a smoking Indonesian volcano have been put on alert of a possible eruption after sensors detected increased activity in its crater. Mount Merapi on Java could erupt within days, said a vulcanologist at a nearby monitoring station.

I really have no idea why they call the island 'Seram'. In Malay, which is very similiar to the various dialects in indonesia (Medan, Jawa, Bugis...etc), seram means 'horrifying'.

And then you have another island close to Seram called Malang. Also a bad choice for a name, as malang means 'misfortune'.

Anyway, the affected island, Pulau Buru, means 'Hunt Island'.
