For Pagans who wish to have an alternative to the
God belief based boy scouts ....

Pagan scouting group takes root
By Jeff Wright
The Register-Guard

... this is the SpiralScouts - the pagan version of learning outdoor skills
and earning badges.

Begun in 2001 in Washington state, SpiralScouts has grown into a
movement serving families of various minority faiths in 20 states, Canada
and Europe. The newly created Emerald Earth Seekers in Eugene is the
organization's third "circle" in Oregon, following the lead of similar groups
in Salem and Portland.

But why enroll her son in SpiralScouts instead of, say, the Boy Scouts?
Glickman says the Boy Scouts often have a Christian flavor and, as their
name suggests, is for boys only. "I like the alternative religion and the fact
that it's co-gender," she says of the SpiralScouts.

I think its a great idea.

I wish there was something similare here in the UK coz I definitely let my little tribe go if they were interested.

I just hope that it continues to grow and produces more positive attitudes towards paganism.

I thought it was a good idea as well.

From what I understand, the boy scouts require a belief in God
to be a member. That's fine. It's their right to require that belief
and to have a special fraternal club for those that believe in God.

Having a pagan version not only gives those kids a chance to have
fun, but it is an outlet where the pagans can go and not challenge
the Boy Scouts right to have a fraternal organization of their own.

The Boy Scouts can continue to have 'God Believing Members' only
and not have to change their rules. The Pagans can have their
fun in peace and security as well.
