I'm suprised that no one else has seen this aspect of the hurricane, so i'll cover it.

As most of you probably know, the army was saying they were short of recruitment numbers before the hurricane, and now they have a whole field of diamonds. The better part of a city is left out of home, most of whom were among the poorest in the nation, with nowhere to turn. Meanwhile, the army can go to FEMA camps and whatnot and get people with the "We give you food and a paycheck.. Your just a burden to everyone if you don't do this" line that they used before.

Now, this might sound a bit outlandish.. But perhaps FEMA is dragging their feat with response so recruitment will be up? (Not a real, researched theory.. Just skunk works.)

do you have an instance of this? or did america create the hurricane to satisfy its recruiting needs?

People, come on! on this site i see one thing, that is everyone jumps on this band wagon that has been shoved down their throats that the US is evil, they created the storm to annihilate blacks or replensish it ranks.

It gets old real quick.... THINK for yourselves, and stop regergatating what you have been force fed by the media.

I'm not saying that Katrina is made by the US, or that the whole nation is evil. Hell, Katrina was an act of god if there ever was one. But never the less it seems like the army wouldn't have trouble cashing in on the recent mass relocation. The media didn't say this, as far as I can see no one did. Your jumping onto a bandwagon of your own, assuming I was saying that the government made katrina to kill all the blacks and whatnot.. When all I said was that the army would be recruiting people using the same tatics they used a few years ago.

If you would you know.. Read my post before assuming that I was some media whore that belived in the whole Katrina conspiracy load. Incase you haven't watched the news recently, they aren't saying the US is evil.. The opposit is being said by them. I am thinking for myself, but you seem to need help in that department.

Well, I can't rightly say where one would get the information to back this up, but it never the less seems like a possible side-effect to the hurricane. Not that the army made the storm, or theres some conspiracy to make people join.. Simply that FEMA might hve been a bit slow in coming to increase the possibility.

And I would think it stranger that recruiters didn't try and boost enlistment numbers after this.. If they go to malls, high schools and arcades to get members, then the odds of them not trying to get their numbers up are slim to nil..

If the government decided to hire these people for the army,then that might not be a bad idea. You have many opportunities for an education in the military, and you can even get a trade. People used to be told "Its either the army, or jail!" Now,it could be "Its either the army ,or poverty".Lets sign them all up, get them off welfare, and help them have some pride. Serving in the armed forces can be a very noble job.

Im not saying that the whole thing is really that bad, since people are going to be making money and doing all the things you said above.. But it is never the less a bit disheartening.

As a former Navy recruiter, I see one flaw with your theory. It may be difficult to do a police check on these individuals. All individuals being processed for recruitment into the US military are required to undergo a police check. If New Orleans PD have lost their records, it will be difficult for the recruiter to supply the proper documents for induction. The military may be willing to issue a waiver for Katrina victims, but I doubt it will happen on a large scale.

Besides, most of the people who can pass the ASVAB test can probably get a job where they are staying. Those who would be content to stay on welfare will continue to do so.

Ahh, thanks. I wasnt sure if the military did those or not, but thanks for clearing it up. I suppose another conspiracy theory is gonna pop up surrounding the NOPD loosing alot of their records..

Don't forget physical part of the MEPS routine. Not everyone is physically qualified for military service. And if a waiver is needed, documentation could have been lost in the hurricane. This documentation could be easily obtainable for those who truly wish to join the Armed Forces, but they would have to actually do their part in order to get said documentation.
