You will find that on certain "secret" or "test" air fields that there have been small areas blanked out, they seem to use this whitening to cover certain areas!! There is an airstip in Arizona or New Mexico that has similar "white" areas covering large areas of the ramp/taxiway. These have clearly been doctered after the image has been developed. What are they hiding?

Could be just the sun reflected off a canopy / windshield.

One thing I speculated about in the Area 51 Research Project here on ATS is how the base is powered. A logical power source for the base is to use Solar panels. Solar panels will have a huge glint if the angles are right

I'd have to go with FredT on this one. Most likely just a highly reflective surface. i.e. windshield, etc.

Google Earth/Maps do contain many areas that are "whited" out, buildings and such, but from what I've seen it's rather blocky and obvious. This seems to be more of a reflection than white out.

Always good to keep looking though

on a side note, FredT ...

While I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find that Area51 is powered by conventional/solar means, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of having it's own nuclear power source.

We did kick around the nuclear issue as well. It is plausable, however, Richard Saunders book series on underground bases has me convinced that this is not the case.

However, it very well may be the case:

In all of the satelite overheads and the USGS maps I pulled when I looked at the whole area one thing you notice is the total lack of an incoming pipeline for gas / fuel (WHich is expensive to fly in) or high tension power lines.

I always maintain, more time should be spent finding the images of the Groom Mountain Range which is North of the dry lake. If I were to put say a generating plant or a reactor it would be there well away from pryign eyes.

Hi tension power lines reach the base coming from the west,
from the NTS area. They're pretty clearly shown on all the
photos at dreamlandresort.com.

Power lines run east/west, they are just north of the base.

Fuel is trucked in, also from the
west, via Station 700, like it would be for any other
airport or mil base or commercial area.

To me, those pictures seem to be reflections off car windscreens of some glass object.

Just in my oppinion.

I can't tell which post you're commenting on.

If it's the original question about reflections,
those aren't RCS towers. They are reflections.
You see them all over the world when the
satellite is in just the right place in relation
to the reflective object. They're in the middle
of parking lots and aircraft parking ramps.
That's not where RCS installations go.

If your response is to my post about power lines,
those are power line towers, not RCS towers. They
are clearly marked on the dreamland panorama,
you can see the power lines. They are also marked
on the flight charts. And you can see the lines
themselves when you take the tour of NTS. They
run east from NTS in the same general area as gate 700.
