LA Times Prints April Fool's Joke as News

The Los Angeles Times printed a news story that used a quote from a fake news release that was circulating on the Internet for months as an April

GREEN RIVER, Wyo. - A quote in a fake news release that was intended as an April Fool's joke ended up in a front-page story in the Los Angeles Times.
The story in Tuesday's editions of the Times noted how successful the reintroduction of wolves had been 10 years ago, but said the predators remained controversial.
"In Wyoming, for example, Gov. Dave Freudenthal last April decreed that the Endangered Species Act is no longer in force and that the state 'now considers the wolf as a federal dog,' unworthy of protection," the story read.
The Times printed a correction Wednesday, acknowledging that the news release was a hoax.

This is outrageously funny, but also quite sad. It just goes to show how little effort is put into making sure what read in the news is accurate these days.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that a rag like the LA Times would post something incorrect on their front page. They've been doing that for quite
some time now.
Remember how desperately they searched to find dirt on Schwarzenegger, while turning down verified and corroborated stories about how an irate Governor Gray Davis treated his staff and others?
Its reasons such as this and more that explain the Times' dwindling circulation numbers.
