Just read that the colourful charactor Kerry Packer died last night aged 68.

"Australia's richest man, the media magnate Kerry Packer, has died.

His death on Monday night was announced at the end of the Today show on his Nine Network just before 9am (AEDT)."
news.ninemsn.com.au...

There was hundred's of hilarious tales regarding Packer, i remember one ....

Packer was once playing in a Casino when he had a run in with another gambler, a Texan.
The Texan Exclaimed "Do you know who i am!?" and proceeded to say " I am *****, im woth more than 150 million dollars".
Kerry Packer looked him in the eye and said " I'll Toss ya for it!"

hehe.

Bless his cotton socks.

Here's one for you.

How Kerry learned the value of money.

Kerry went to Geelong Grammar. (I didn't, we thought of ourselves as far superior to them!) As a boarder.

One holiday he arrived home on the train and his mother asked him where his tennis racket was. Kerry looked at his luggage and realised he'd left it at school.

"How are you going to play tennis this summer without a racket?" his mum asked.

Kerry replied that it would be no problem for her to buy him a new one, after all, they could afford it.

His mum told him that it was an expensive racket and if he wanted to play tennis he'd better get on the next train south, go back to school and get it.

Kerry was on the next train.

This quote made me laugh.

He wasn't very lovable but he was bloody efficient. (Packer talking about Genghis Khan)

Hmm...

Just noticed my spelling.

It's quite possible Kerry was involved in a few rackets (given that he was worth 5 billion!)...but he might have needed a racquet to play tennis.

Biggest racket would have to have been the Casinos.

[waayyy off-topic]Why I hate Aussie banks:

In the week that the ANZ baled out Crown with a $44 million rescue package they told my parents they couldn't extend their $3,000 overdraft.[/waayyy off-topic]

There's a massive difference between your examples there, Crown was a Billion dollar establishment of coarse ANZ would lend the money, they probably already had alot more already invested so they where protecting that investment and the Facility itself would of been good security.

Im not sure your Racquet example taught Kerry a lesson about money, but more like taught him to respect his mothers wishes and proved his love of Tennis in the summer ! after all his Family was worth some 500m or there abouts back then.

Thing i find hilarious in the news last few days, is PBL's executive's endorsing Kerry's son James as a competent and experienced leader for the Company, i mean give me a break are they going to even dare to say anything to the contrary!!

May kerry packer rot in hell and all the future heirs of his empire of evil, be born sterile.
Kerry packer was not a 'good australian', nor was he someone to be admired.

Gawd, obviously you're someone who knew very little about him, very very little. How can you justify what you say ?
Kerry was a member at my golf club ever since I've been there and I've had the pleasure of speaking to him on occassion. Being a member of this golf club also allowed me to hear far more stories about him than will ever become public. He is a great Australian and one of the most humble, many of his extraordinary generous donations will never be known, just as he wished.
