SCIENTISTS believe they are on the brink of recreating the world of the long-lost dodo after uncovering a "beautifully preserved" cache of bones from the extinct bird on the island of Mauritius.
The Dutch and Mauritian-led team which made the discovery yesterday gave the first details of the haul of fossils and the bones of other extinct birds and reptiles, including giant tortoises, and material from plants and trees.
