In December, 1980, Rendlesham Forest near RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters was host to an event called "the British Roswell"; there are many good articles about this event, and I'm not going to repeat the details here.

A google-eye view is available

However, before that time, the CIA had mostly ignored that arena, although they had shown interest in areas all over Great Britain and Europe since 1966.

That changed suddenly in 1978, when the area of the bases became very interesting.

Instead of general sweeps, there were three targeted stereo-overlap missions:

July 18, 1978, two frames centered on Rendlesham;
April 12, 1979, three frames centered just north of and containing the two bases;
August 27, 1980, five frames, 4 of which overlap west of and containing the bases.
There was also an additional stereo set made generally of both coasts of the English Channel, in October of the same year.

This is one of the best of the images (I've enhanced the contrast quite a bit).

After these shots, the spooks seemed to lose interest in the east coast of Britain again.

Once more, it appears, the CIA expressed interest in the site of a major UFO event before the event.
