If we were to look at history on a graph, like a simple line graph over time, you will see a decline in technological development. Not to be confused with mental decline or a decline in intellegence. It is obvious there was a decline, like something big happened that actually stopped progression, otherwise we wouldn't have just recently come out of the "horse and buggy" stage. With all the understanding of steam, hydrolics, gears, etc thousands of years ago, we should be further along. Having a steam ball thousands of years with all the other technologies at the time, it only seems logical they would have implemented the idea somewhere along the line. The horizontal line representing time, and the verticle line representing degree of technology (or a fitting term).

Cybertroy, I think the autoformating destroyed your graph. Might want to try again using dashes to be place-holders.

Like this:

|
|x-x-x-x
|----------x
|-----------x
|-------------x
|---------------x-x
|--------------------x---------x
|----------------------x-x
|---------------------------x-------x----------x
|-----------------------------x---x---x-x-x-x--x...(Et cetera ad terminus)
