I say it was terrorist.

"Several other neighbours said they did see a plane go into the depot."

wow... owner glad you're ok... can't believe it, i just saw this and checked a bunch of american news sites and they have nothing on it. doesn't surprise me really. i guess we'll all find out later in the day what happened. i remember something like this at a fuel storage facility in ohio a few years back, probably not terrrorist, just an industrial accident.

well once the rumors of a plane going into it go away then i call it a industrial accident, you never know.

I would assume it has something to do with a main orifice or something of that nature.

First thought I could tell it was not related to terrorism.

Edited to add: I think this should be moved from the War on Terrorisom board.

Do you have a source for this quote ?
Everything I've read is reporting this as an industrial accident.

I'm inclined to think that this isn't a eupamism either, I tend to think that this is an industrial accident. It was a storage depot for oil, fuel and kerosene.

BBC online are reporting that early theories include it being from a vapour leak that had built up.

[EDIT: ok, I've picked it up from here now.

I heard this report at 3:am EST and the only thought I could focus on at that moment was could it be of a terrorist nature?. It has been a little overdue for another major attack. I hope all the workers at that specfic plant made it out alive and unhurt. Keep your head up over there in the U.K.

There were unconfirmed reports that eight people have been killed in the large explosions near Hemel Hempstead, around 40 km north of London, the Sky News said on Sunday.

Hertfordshire Police said the explosion was an "accident" and nothing sinister.

i live near hemel hempstead, and i was woken by the blast, so was asala.

the sky around here is dark grey..... scary!

i am very concerned........was this a mistake or was this meant to happen.

but wouldn't terrorists hit somewhere bigger.... not hertfordshire.
i think it was a mistake but i am not ruling anything out.

These picutres are shown of the smoke filling the air, from a satalite...

also something thought provoking....

The man in charge of investigating the massive fires at a Hertfordshire oil depot on Sunday says the flames may have destroyed all clues to the cause.

Crazy close up photos, you would think they might have had some security?

I heard something on one news report about how some guy filling up his tanker says he thinks he caused it by flipping a trip switch when he left or something. Not been able to find out anything about it since.
