as i read the play hamlet, i noticed that there is the theme of death and the supposed "life-after death"...

this is where that famous "to be, or not to be" speech come into play...

in this speech, hamlet talks about the option of suicide because he is in great dismay...

he compares death to sleeping...

then, he says that he does not want to commit suicide because when people sleep, they have good and sometimes bad dreams...

imagine, an eternity of bad dreams :shk:

now (here is my theory based on this hamlet theme) maybe when we die, it is really like sleeping and heaven is permanent good dreams and hell permanent bad dreams...

of course, do not take my words literally...

this has probably been talked about before, but heaven and hell can be "a state of mind" and not just a physical place...

to me, heaven and hell being a state of mind (how in the world you can experience a state of mind after death is beyond me) and not a physical place makes more sense to me...

what do you BTSers think???

The Prince Of Demark aside, I feel i've been around a lot longer than my current lifespan. I get the feeling that we keep coming back in a new body and there is no Heaven or Hell. Perhaps theres a timespan between incarnations?
The religious taboos on suicide become meaningless when there is no God.

But I like your thoughts and hope people try Hamlet at home.

ACT I. Scene I.

Elsinore. A platform before the Castle.

Enter two Sentinels-[first,] Francisco, [who paces up and

down at his post; then] Bernardo, [who approaches him].

Ber. Who's there.?

Fran. Nay, answer me. Stand and unfold yourself.

Ber. Long live the King!

Fran. Bernardo?

Ber. He.

Fran. You come most carefully upon your hour.

Ber. 'Tis now struck twelve. Get thee to bed, Francisco.

Fran. For this relief much thanks. 'Tis bitter cold,

And I am sick at heart.

Ber. Have you had quiet guard?

Fran. Not a mouse stirring.

Ber. Well, good night.

If you do meet Horatio and Marcellus,

The rivals of my watch, bid them make haste.

Enter Horatio and Marcellus.

Fran. I think I hear them. Stand, ho! Who is there?

Hor. Friends to this ground.

Mar. And liegemen to the Dane.

Fran. Give you good night.

Mar. O, farewell, honest soldier.

Who hath reliev'd you?

Fran. Bernardo hath my place.

Give you good night. Exit.

Mar. Holla, Bernardo!

Ber. Say-

What, is Horatio there ?

Hor. A piece of him.

Ber. Welcome, Horatio. Welcome, good Marcellus.

Mar. What, has this thing appear'd again to-night?

Ber. I have seen nothing.

Mar. Horatio says 'tis but our fantasy,

And will not let belief take hold of him

Touching this dreaded sight, twice seen of us.

Therefore I have entreated him along,

With us to watch the minutes of this night,

That, if again this apparition come,

He may approve our eyes and speak to it.

Hor. Tush, tush, 'twill not appear.

Ber. Sit down awhile,

And let us once again assail your ears,

That are so fortified against our story,

What we two nights have seen.

Hor. Well, sit we down,

And let us hear Bernardo speak of this.

Ber. Last night of all,

When yond same star that's westward from the pole

Had made his course t' illume that part of heaven

Where now it burns, Marcellus and myself,

The bell then beating one-

Enter Ghost>>>>>>

I have sometimes thought that perhaps the 'other side' is the waking reality and
our present reality will, in the end, turn out to be the dream....

I don't know. It's good thinking for a rainy afternoon, at least it has been for me.

Country Soul...

i have been reading hamlet in AP english 12...

the language (the old english) is a bit tuff though...

anyway, i would like to be reincarnated rather than going to a "heaven"...

that's just me though...

although, "eternal happiness" is promising...

Suffer through the "old english", you'll be better for it. Learn some German and French, and a little Latin, and dabble in Spanish. You'll find you understand "Modern English" a lot more after learning something about the others.

It amazes me how complex our language is and where it all originated from.

I have some mad theories.

One is that when we die we are forced to experience the point of view of everyone we interacted with over the course of our whole lives. If we have dealt with people nastily, we will be humbled once we come to realise the effect we had on those around us - if we have treated people graciously we will be happy within ourselves and satisfied by finally understanding that we did make a difference etc.

they see ALL... this is the first thoughts towards heaven that seemed to fit my opinions and thoughts. Rather then a physical state, it is more of a mental state. Im sure you are not the first to say this, however your posts title caught my eye so i checked it out. To my utter surprise it was a learning lesson and changed my outtakes.

I thank you!

truth
truth & Love
Truth & Love begot fear
fear begot hate
hate begot fear
fear and hate begot war
war begot fear of loosing the love for control
fear of loosing control took love away
fear of loosing control begot hating what fear could not comprehend without the love that was now no where: Ultimate power

Once you reach the top, and have no questions left that need answered, what purpose is there?

To serve.

To serve what, there is nothing left?

serve what got you here, not in the here and now, because they are not here, nor now.

To serve love loving truth.

the necessity for redemption could bring all fishes back to the reef where the fishes had decided to leave the reef and spread "Selfish before I Serve" among the seven seas.

Choices are sometimes black and white, but when they are gray then neither black nor white are always recognizable.

How far would you go to ensure existances existance?

Sure, you may know what you would be willing to die for, but what would you be willing to live for?

And, are either of what you are willing to die for or live for the truth? Are either even your truth?

When observing your experiences are you seeing through eyes that provide you the answers to your hates, the answers to your fears, or the answers to your loves, or the answers to your truths?

Viewing from a state of mind dominated by fear (by choice), then when looking down the rabbit whole how can you expect to see the stars?

The ideology of this planet is wrong if even 1 soul is willing to forfeit their existance if they are wrong. Because if they are willing to forteit their existance rather than being wrong, they can not be right. And if they can not be right, then they will have forfeited their existance.
