OKey, mister Leveller,
You have Your Opinion and I have Mine, and thats all Fine and Dandy,
but we have sailed far far away from the Topic of the Thread,
which still is, Ritual Abose of UK Marines.

I will just end this with a Tai Chi Meditation Number 28 and 29:

XXVIII.

A Wise Man does not think about his needs only, but think about the needs of Others. Be Good to those that are Good to You.
Be Good also to the ones that Are NOT Good to you.
In this way you Achieve Kindness.

Be Honest to the ones that are Honest to you.
Be Honest also to the ones that are NOT Honest to you.
That way Everybody will become Honest eventually.

XXIX.

Fight Pride with Modesty
Fight Hate with Love
Fight Selfishness with Generosity
Fight War with Peace
Fight Ignorance with Knowledge
Fight Evil with Good

Those are things worth Fighting for.

You know what a Knight is right?

Yes. A military man - a soldier. Dress it up any way you want, they still use physical aggression to fight their battles.
From Dictionary.com:

knight
Abbr. Knt. or Kt. A medieval tenant giving military service as a mounted man-at-arms to a feudal landholder.
Abbr. Knt. or Kt. A medieval gentleman-soldier, usually high-born, raised by a sovereign to privileged military status after training as a page and squire.
Abbr. K. A man holding a nonhereditary title conferred by a sovereign in recognition of personal merit or service to the country.

Big difference between a Knight and a soldier.

Big difference between Bushido or Chivalry and pure thuggery.

Big difference between knowing what you are talking about and guff.

Live and learn, old bean, live and learn.....

Not delicate just proving a point that the whole topic is wrong...
The titles wrong, the source is spun and frankly its made out to be as if this was a regular occurance in the RM.

Just like the RAF and the RN , we are the only country which does not have "country " in its name.
Why?
Because these are the queens troops, not the UK's.
The british army on the other hand rebelled and is mistrusted by the crown over the other 2 services.

Wow, thanks, that's interesting, I never knew that, I stand informed.

Your tone is very upset, are you a Royal Marine as well? I see your mood set as ashamed. Is this the normal carry on? Do you condone this or despise it?

As always, looking forward to your input.

He's right. You may be interested to know that the Royal Marines were formed to keep the Royal Navy in line. It was their job to stop mutinies on board ship. The Navy boys still treat Marines with distrust and look upon them as a lower life form. Mind you, they're still wary enough not to state that latter out loud in the presence of a Marine. The modern amphibious infantry force evolved from these early Naval police.

As I stated earlier, I live near the barracks where the first incident occured. This afternoon I spoke to a serviceman from there. His exact words were "The public just don't understand. Maybe kicking the guy in the head was a bit OTT, but it is the Marines we're talking about here." As for the nakedness? He said it's very unusual for a Marine to actually keep his clothes on or not to dress up in women's clothes once he's had a few beers. I can vouch for this after seeing 3 of them jump naked out of a 2nd storey window at a party where they then proceeded to have a bare-assed race up and down the road. All the while greeting passers by with a hearty "Hello".
Basically a confirmation of the attitude I stated earlier. These are not civilians we are talking about here. They are a different breed with a different outlook on life. For many of us, this thing doesn't scan, but then our purpose for living isn't to kill our fellow man. It doesn't matter wether we agree on having armed forces or not. The fact is that armies do exist, these guys do that job and that is how they live.

By the way - knight or soldier - apart from the supposed chivalry aspect (which really never existed as most were mercenaries), would you like to state the difference? The fact remains that both are men trained for war and both use the art of combat to achieve their ends. For the purpose of this topic, that comparison is all that is needed.

And the Comparison was way off.
Comparing a Jedi Knight and a Royal Marine is not really Smart.
Jedi Knights are a monastic peacekeeping organization, more Monks then Soldiers - they are Philosophers and Priests, Warriors if they really have to be. They follow a Code, which could not be more different then the ones of the Royal Marines. They are not some petty mercs, which you hire to slaughter some civilans. They are more Kung-Fu Monks, which know many ways to kill a Man with their Bare Hands, but do not do it when ordered. THAT is the difference. Go above and read the Tai-Chi meditations which Kung-Fu Monks use.

I'm with Leveller on this one. RMs are well known for getting naked at parties. They are also well known for dressing up as women and getting w***ered at the majority of social functions. Indeed, it is unwise for a woman to go out with a marine who is roughly the same size as her, incase she wakes up one morning to find a dear John letter and most of her wardrobe missing!

These things go on. They always have and always will. This was obviously one of the more 'enthusiastic' examples, but not that unusual for the 'Royals'. There was obviously alot of drink involved and things got a bit out of hand. So what?

The really surprising thing is that it made it to the papers. I didn't realise that the public were so unaware of the military way of life. We think differently, we act differently. If we didn't, we couldn't perform some of the unnatural acts that our profession calls for, i.e. to legally murder another human being. This goes to show that these boys will follow orders if called to do so. I know it's a bit on the harsh side, but if you can't take a joke then you shouldn't join

Dude, I think your way off for bringing Jedi into this thread!

I believe the chap was on about normal, historic Knights.

You know, shiny suits of armour, big War Horses, big, chunky Broadswords and flirtacious Maidens...

Sounds just like boarding school and university to me.

Sounds like alcohol plays a large role in this. Maybe they should prohibit marines from drinking for a while to see if that does anything.

It's amazing that an intoxicant could remove you from the reality/harshness of the situation and be legal. Though, I think this is for a different discussion. Don't want to tread off topic.

A) The RM follow many codes.
B) They are not petty "mercs" since they are a standing force and only the british army could really be called "mercs" since they require to be reviewed every year for them to continue.
C) Royal marines DO know many ways how to kill a man with thier bare hands, and they do think about what thier ordered to do. Why else would they show them videos about leadership as in "Do you think this breaks the law?"....

Yeah? And how do you know that Obi Wan doesn't go out on the town, get mortal drunk and play "naughty military games" with his mates after a hard day's fighting the evil Empire?
He's halfway there already anyway. He wears a dress.

what has suprised me in all this, is that nobody has asked the marine who got kicked in the face what he thinks! It is up to him if this was just horseplay or ritual abuse!

These things happen in most special forces regiments. The Paras are well known for their 'milling' ritual where two recuits face each other a pace apart and just hit each other as many times as possible for a minute. Some would say that is abuse, but to the Paras it is just agression training!

Gee, why are you so Pissed, so that Mod had to edit your Post?
I know Obi-Wan - we go WAY Back. I think you are just a Poor Looser and Hate to admit, that your Comparison was Poor and a Jedi Knight and a UK marines have very little things incommon.

But, I will let it Pass; I am through with this Debate and will not post anymore stuff about Jedi's but only stuff regarding the Topic of this Thread.

So, if these Marines have such "Abuse" as a part of their "Aggression Training" it makes me really think what they would do to the Enemy Prisoners of War, if they are so "Friendly" among themselves.

Or maybe they were just Bored.

Just like Secret British Army Sex Show in Iraq,
or maybe how US female soldiers go wild,
or maybe how Net body photos inquiry dropped charges, for the Photographs of dead Iraqis on a website in exchange for access to pornography.

Yeah, maybe its one of THOSE Days...
