In a first for the U.S. Navy, an underwater glider was launched with the aid of Navy divers from the Dry Deck Shelter aboard USS Buffalo (SSN 715) November 14.

The glider is a uniquely mobile network component capable of moving to specific locations and depths and gathering various information, which is transmitted on a predetermined interval when it surfaces to computers via a built-in satellite phone.

I wonder if this is the underwater future equivilant of UAV/UCAV cant wait to see how this develops. It would be ideal to send in unmanned glider to sanitize shallow-water areas

That thing even looks kick ass huh?

It reminds me of a shuttle craft that we may use someday to launch off a space station or larger ship in space.

That is one sweet looking craft.

Looks more like what I think Submarines should look like, even if it is just an aqua glider.
