OK, imagine this. A lone captured Spitfire encounters a P-51 on a attack mission. They start to engage in a dog fight. Who will win..............

So, who do you guys think is the better aircraft, the P-51 or the Spitfire? Personally I like the P-51 but what is your opinion?

Lets imagine this:

There comes equal Bf-109 G/K

Or

Superior Fw-190..

This is a stupid topic..

German didnt need 'captured allied aircrafts' as most of their own were superior to anything that USSR / UK / US had.

Germans shot down much more planes that they ever lost vs. anybody.

Check your facts.

Luftwaffe was the superior force, it just had too much enemies at the end..

USAF is today what Luftwaffe was.

*edit*

Ok, done with the jokes..

I ment: IDF/AF is today what Luftwaffe was.. The Superior force..

Actually the Germans did used some captured aircraft. I believed that they used some B-17s and B-24. The Germans were short on everything and needed all the aircraft they could get.

I started this topic to ask what plane you thought was better, the Spitfire or the P-51.

They used them to drop agents and to train fighter pilots to attack those planes in the right way.

But..

P-51 (with buble canopy) is better.

Btw, dont feed me propangada.. plz..

I still know the facts

As allways..

I vote for the P-51, which was incidentally designed for the British. When the US Army saw how good it was, they decided they wanted some too.

When I used to play Janes WW2 Fighters I used to program missions where allied planes would attack each other, then share my missions with buddies who would be surprised to find themselves under attack by allied aircraft.

Depnds on the situation and the pilot. A German pilot wouldn't be very familiar with a captured P-51, and wouldn't be so capable of flying it in combat.

Spitfire had better roll rate and turn, high speed, reasonably good lift and a very good armament, especially later versions.

P-51 had a reasonable roll rate, exceptional climb rate, good armament, and it's speed surpassed most versions of the Spitfire.
Hard one to call really.

True, the design was origianlly rejected by the RAF, because it initially was slower than a Spitfire. Then they introduced the streamlined canopy, and installed the Rolls Royce Merlin engine, the same as was used in the Spitfire.

Which ever airplane had the better fripping pilot. Have any of you ever read Yeager's book? Here is a story from his book:

Yeager was sent to fly and evaluate a Mig 15 that had been acquired by the USAF during the Korean War. When he had finished the evaluation, he gave a briefing to some F-86 pilots from Korea concerning the capabilities of the Mig 15. A major ask Yeager which was the better airplane: The Mig 15 or the F-86? Yeager responded let's try it out. So they flew mock combat - Yeager in the Mig 15, the major in the F-86. Every time Yeager got behind the F-86 in a position for a kill shot. After they landed the major stated, "Well then the Mig 15 is the better plane." Yeager said, "Major you fly the Mig 15 now and I will fly the F-86". This time Yeager flying the F-86 got behind the major in the Mig 15 for the kill shot. After they landed, Yeager said to the major, "The guy with the most experience will get on your tail every time."

The question is then which airplane has the better pilot.

Germans had this 'saying' about 'the numbers':

(i have it in orginal 'form' in German in one of my books.. just cant find the spot right now..)

But it translates:

When there are enough dogs, they will catch the rabbit eventually.

('rabbit' being the German figter pilot.. and 'dogs' the 'allied' flyers..)

And what are you?

Maybe you are just a bottom hole?

How can you make out of Jagdflieger pilots mass murderers?

(fighter command..)

But if we were to talk about USAAF / RAF bomber pilots..
..these killed millions.. Germans and Japanese.

Keep your # out of my face kid.
