During the expansion of america the mexicans had no means of advancing so their only weapon was the chupacabra myth. The myth was unsuccessful because most americans didnt believe in it. To this day we have the tales of chupacabra all over america in the tradition of old mexico to scare american children in the night...

This can't be true since the chupacabra was first reported fairly recently in Puerto Rico, only later to spread to other Latin American areas.

I saw an episode of "Bonanza" from the early sixties where Chupacabras were mentioned several times in the episode.
