"WASHINGTON (AFP) - An interceptor missile fired from a US Navy cruiser shot down a mock warhead over the Pacific after it had separated from a medium-range missile, the US military said.

It was the sixth successful intercept in seven attempts since the tests of the sea-based missile defense system began in 2002, the Missile Defense Agency said.

The sea-based system is designed to intercept short- and intermediate-range missiles with interceptor missiles fired from Aegis warships. "

This is very inportant news. With Iran and N Korea spinning out of control the capability to shoot dwon missles from a ship that can be lost in a vast ocean make a lot of sense. But notice the reference to land based anti-missle defense systems in "alaska". The location if one looks appear to be between Iran (region) and HARRP. Why?

"Israel should be wiped off the map." - Iran

"There will be serious consequences if the UN interferes with our nuclear program." - Iran

"We will turn Japan into a sea of fire." - NK

"We will turn Seoul into a sea of fire." - NK

"The U.S will suffer a massive defeat thanks to our powerful deterrent weapons." - NK

All very recent comments from each countries 'government' run news. Here is an article from the world's most tightly controlled media.

"The DPRK will react to Japan's move to apply economic sanctions against the DPRK with tough retaliatory measures. Rodong Sinmun Friday warns this in a signed commentary assailing Japan for contemplating applying economic sanctions against the DPRK single-handed, independent of the United States.

The Japanese reactionaries, much upset by the world public paying no heed to the so-called "abduction issue", are working hard to build up public opinion favorable for them and "single-handed application of economic sanctions" is part of their new anti-DPRK campaign, the commentary observes, and continues:

Japan's loudmouthed "single-handed application of economic sanctions" is aimed at keeping the world opinion on the "abduction issue" from waning in a bid to pressurize the DPRK and wrest any concession from the latter.

The DPRK clearly stated more than once that it would regard any sanctions against it as a declaration of war. Nevertheless, the Japanese reactionaries are contemplating the application of economic sanctions against the DPRK.

This is a deliberate and premeditated provocative move to scrap the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and drive the confrontation between the two countries to a dangerous phase of clash.

The hostile relations between the two countries are now inching close to the dangerous phase of explosion. Under this situation the DPRK is left with no option but to take a decisive counter- measure.

The army and the people of the DPRK value its sovereignty as their life and soul and will never allow anyone to infringe upon it."

Japan is 1 of only 3 'life-support machines' that keep NK 'alive' the other 2 are China and South Korea. If even 1 of them stopped 'working', NK may very well 'die'.

General Assembly resolutions? Which aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I wonder how many Palestine has broken. "We will not disarm the militants." - Abbas

The Lake Eerie. She's a Ticonderoga class based out of Pearl Harbor. They fired the missile from Barking Sands, Pacific Missile Range. The one miss was a software error in the missile that caused it to detonate too far from the incoming missile. She's been kicking a and taking names in these tests. Hopefully once they get the upgraded missiles completely out to the fleet, we'll see a few more Ticos out there with her popping missiles.
