U.S. Regulators are now concerened over 12 deaths of children that have died while taking the flu fighting drug tamiflu. The FDA is also investigating the deaths as well as other reported side effects.

today.reute rs.com
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. regulators have asked Roche AG for more information about the deaths of 12 children who took the flu-fighting drug Tamiflu, saying in a report released on Thursday that the cause of the deaths was "extremely difficult to interpret."

The Food and Drug Administration also said it was "concerning" that 32 psychiatric events, such as hallucinations and abnormal behavior, had been reported in children who took Tamiflu, which is in high demand because it is considered to be one of the best defenses against avian flu in people.

Reuters.com FDA PROBE INTO TAMIFLU

Well it looks like the best defence in the bird flu is starting to not look to good. Pretty crazy that there hasnt been more research for this drug.

Ok, so the plot thickens...
we all know by now that Rumsfeld is directly connected to the company that produces Tamiflu... makes big bucks from it...

We all have wondered why the hype of a virus that up to now, has killed 7 people...
more people than that, have smallpox right now...and there is no hype about it.

Tamilflu seems to be a bad vaccine... not really useful, and very dangerous...
but after millions are invested in bringing it to market, they have to find a buyer...

well, thanks to Rumsfelds connections to the president, it is easy to have the country buy up the entire stock... (to protect the populace of course... or at least 20 million of them)
"OH, yeah... and by the way Mr Pres... it is kinda dangerous, so we might want to pass legislation that protects us and the manufacturer from the massive lawsuits." hence the recent legislation...

as movie plots go... this one sucks... there is no foreshadowing, the plot angles are right out in the open... the methods of delivery are too cliched...
the actors suck... and are not even likeable as to their charachter... the only decent thing about this movie is the dependable american style twist ending where all the evil scoundrels "get thiers"...

ooops I forgot, this isn't a movie... and it really sucks anyway...

The FDA said that Tamiflu didn't cause the deaths ONE DAY AFTER they decided to investigate it. Wow. Kind of like passing the Patriot Act less than 45 days after 9/11. Makes you wonder...wonder how much Roche or Gilead Sciences "paid" the FDA to come up with that conclusion - in less than 24 hours.

32 cases? Interesting. Seems like Tamiflu side effects are being reported nation by nation.

The key to understanding this disinfo campaign is knowing that Rumsfeld is connected to Gilead Sciences, who owns -and profits from- Tamiflu rights. Let us not forget: Tamiflu doesn't really work on H5N1 bird flu. Talk about risks outweighing any possible benefit.

Japan Times:
"In Japan the drug carries a warning of possible impaired consciousness, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, and other psychological and neurological symptoms. ...The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency said there were 64 cases of psychological disorders linked to the drug between fiscal 2000 and 2004."

In Japan, Tamiflu warnings include impaired consciousness, abnormal behaviors, hallucination and other psychological and neurological symptoms as possible serious side effects.

Voice of America: "Japan's health ministry says it plans to reissue a warning of dangerous behavioral side effects linked to the anti-influenza drug Tamiflu. This comes amid reports that several children in Japan died after taking the medication."

Chosun: VOA Asia

PharmaTimes:
"According to PharmaTimes, Japan's Ministry of Health may issue another warning of behavioural side effects linked with Tamiflu (oseltamivir), after reports of cases of sudden death amongst children given the drug, and says it has identified 64 cases of psychological disorders linked to oseltamivir since its approval four years ago.

Chugai, which distributes oseltamivir in the Japan, says it has reported two deaths to the Ministry - which in turn has concluded that one death was treatment-related. In Japan, oseltamivir is already stamped with a warning of abnormal behaviour and hallucinations, which is not on the labelling in other markets."

It helps to know the overall amount of usage... apparently asia has used it extensively... without good effect...

so how many people have used it, and what percentage have bad side effects show up...
how many are actually helped by it, vs suffer ill effects?

it doesn't look helpful, and looks like rumsfeld is making millions...

This are not very good news for something that is supposed to be our last defense against the bird flu.

And yes I was watching the news about the growing concern of the side effects of the Tamiflu.

No good news at all if the ones that can be targeted by the side effects and deaths are going to be children.

We can not compare the side effects of the usage to anything here in the US because most of the used has been in Asian nations.

What I don't understand is how long the Tamiflu was allowed to be tested and I wounder if the first test rats has been the same people that has become victim to it.

Very sad.

Great submission.

Notice the wording of the FDA's denial that Tamiflu caused these deaths:

A U.S. advisory panel said on Friday it saw no evidence Roche AG's anti-flu medicine Tamiflu caused the deaths of 12 children in Japan but urged regulators to continue monitoring for potential risks.

An advisory panel. Who is 'an advisory panel' and what kind of data did they see to come to this conclusion? I see no evidence, either.

News report: Benevolent Heretic reported on Friday that she saw no evidence Roche AG's anti-flu medicine Tamiflu caused the deaths of 12 children in Japan...

Must be safe, then, huh?

"The committee does not think, based on the data presented, that there's any evidence Tamiflu played a role in the deaths," panel chairman Robert Nelson said.

What data was presented? A Reader's Digest article?

Don't believe everything you read. And if you read it, be sure to read what it says and not what they want you to interpret.

The FDA has no current plan to add warnings about the deaths or psychiatric problems to the Tamiflu label, Lewis said.

Let's wait till we sell a lot more a some more kids die before we start covering our butts with some silly label...

Yikes! The psychological warnings sound strangely similar to the reports about the side affects of the anthrax vaccine the army uses.

Now just imagine a pandemic comes and on top of the flu itself you have a large number of people going psycho at the same time. How ugly could this get?

Dont fear the pandemic man...

it is another swine flu situation...
it will come and go, without a sniffle...

(knocks on wood)....
more hype and fear to help ol Rummy make his retirement money...
no worries.

haven't read thru this one entirely, but it does cite the situation of 1976 swine flu as bieng a big hoax, that sold millions in vaccines for certain companies...

I dont have time, but i would love to know if any of this administration were working for that company at the time also....swine flu hoax...

seawater...
read nostradomus if you want, but the very nature of flu, prevents it from getting as bad as that "prophet" claimed...

people get sick, so they stay home... it is a natural self imposed quarantine... we have routinely overestimated the flu for the last several decades...

the one exception would be the spanish influenza...
but the case could be made, that it was caused by the very same vaccinations that were given to prevent it... (see above "swine flu" link)
