Here she comes, the backbone of Microsofts Xbox strategy to make money with the new Xbox Live for Xbox 360. Charging for every little thing you do on Xbox Live via Microtransactions. Here's the list of all the details.

--------------------------

Pictures for 360 gamer profiles will begin at 20 points ($0.25) for games such as Amped 3, Call of Duty 2, and Gun. However, gamers who want logos from their favorite NFL and FIFA teams on their profile will have to pay three times as much, or 60 points ($0.75) a pop. Madden NFL 06 will offer a collection of team-logo game pictures for 500 points ($6.25), while various non-sports titles will feature bundles of five pictures for 80 points ($1).

This is the main reason I am unwilling to support the Microsoft and the Xbox.

Perhaps if you weren't already paying for Xbox Live and had already bought the game itself. That and it's Microsoft in a multi-billion dollar industry. All the touted features of Xbox Live aren't so great if you have to pay for each individual use. All the stuff we can do for free on ATS -- which is miniscule in comparison -- costs money on Xbox Live.

When has M$ ever said they would institute a pay to play model on all their online games(rather then just MMOs and the Live service itself)? They haven't as they know it would be economic suicide. PS3's plans are much much worse. They plan on "tethering" games to specific consoles so you cannot even play it on any other console(online play that is, single player would not be effected supposedly)

Right now XBOX is Microsofts least profitable business which is still deep in Red ink. I don't blame them for trying to milk it, doesn't make me want to buy a 360 but then again I'm a computer gamer.

In terms of just playing online, the $50 per year covers that, and I simply think that should pretty much cover anything you do on Xbox Live (except Xbox Live Arcade). And yes, Sony's plan is much worse.
