Scientists are now worried that climate change could increase the chances of plague spreading around the world. The wetter, warmer, weather that goes along with climate change could increase the chances for an outbreak according to a European Union-funded group. The scientists have just finished analysis of soviet era data which show a link between warmer weather and outbreaks of the plague.

OSLO (Reuters) - Warmer, wetter weather brought on by global warming could increase outbreaks of the plague, which has killed millions down the ages and wiped out one third of Europe's population in the 14th century, academics said.

Migratory birds spreading avian flu from Asia today could also carry the plague bacteria westward from their source in Central Asia, Nils Stenseth, head of a three-day conference on the plague and how it spreads, told Reuters on Monday.

"Wetter, warmer weather conditions mean there are likely to be more of the bacteria around than normal and the chance of it spreading to humans is higher," he said.

Well this is more bad news for the world. As the weather continues to get warmer and stranger we have to wonder what exactly is gonna come next.

Good find, but, ahem. Scientists have been pointing out climate-change related shifts in disease migration, um, for years.

Yes, but they are specifically talking about the plague here, no? I had thought what you were thinking, but then realized that they mean specifically the bubonic plague here.

West Nile Virus, for example, is probably one of the diseases that might be spreading itno new lattitudes because of global warming, but this is the bubonic plague in particular. Tho I don't think there's a concern about an outbreak like in the old days no? Also, the plague even reached into Iceland, so there can't be much of a concern about temperature having too much of a concern (tho that was a case of humans carrying it on their ships and transmiting it, rather than the disease agent, of its own accord, spreading its range).

Yes, while others can still argue themselves to death (literally) over whether global warming exists...

the rest of us, that read the reports from the militarys top brass, already know this... and are taking measures to protect ourselves and loved ones...

climate change is the word of the day...
be prepared for weather that is out of the ordinary...
i.e.: if you live in a dry climate, prepare for floods...
if you live in a wet climate: prepare for drought...
and no matter where you live, try to keep yourself healthy...
eat right, keep plenty of the over the counter meds handy, and lots of vitamin suppliments at the ready..
