The first generation stealth A/C.

Still extremly interesting to study, even after all these years.

I didnt think they would ever release a cutaway view of it.

The canopy of the only F117 to be shot down, over the former Yugoslavia in 1999.

One other thing I find interesting is the size. From the top and front it looks to be a very "fat" aircraft, but look at it from the side and it appears very thin. This could be an RCS issue, but Im not sure.

np,

But you will see that it is not there after you boot your machine.

It just shows for you as you have looked at the pic on the orginal page, and have it as a 'temp internet file'..

It did 'show to me' that way also, but after i booted, nothing more than little white box and little red cross was to be seen..

Did Russia ever produce a stealth plane?

Well not really.
They have studied it a lot (some claim they are have developed more sophisticated stealth technologies than the US) but they haven't got a real stealth fighter or bombers. Some have stealth characteristics though (which modern figher doesn't these days...).

The russian have studied plasma stealth technlogy:

you do know that people at the ATS (most) dont know nothing about military aviation.

Plus that airforces are the most guarded sector of any nations armed forces.

This is good way to educate people, and also the F-117 was black project.. and infact still is.

As USAF does show these planes.. it really doesnt tell much about it / its upgrades.

And i do think that F-117 deserves a topic of its own.. that is if it doesnt allready hasnt got one?

Sure we need an F-117 thread, it's just the start thread that bothers me, too simple, three facts and a few pics...

Oh and btw, my brother has a 10 year old 'cutaway' poster of it, that shows every since part of the plane

We could start a research project on the F-117... or even better, a research project on the B-2 (wether it is equiped with anti-gravity technology or not...).

FULCRUM.

I can see his original pic without a problem.

The scource link i get from DeltaNines image is.

www.warmachines.50g.com...

I think it may be something at your end. ?

I think on a few of my posts you have commented that you could not get access to the site, when i could see the website without a problem.

I have good firewall blocking, and i always have java, cookies and scripting turned off.

When i am visiting unknown sites especially gov sites, my firewall blocks all the adds and popups.

Maybe that has something to do with it. ???

I don't know.

That sounds great.

And btw this is 'aircraft projects' and 'project F-117' is still going strong.

Here a idea:

We should have here at 'aircraft projects' section a 'aircraft chit chat' and 'aircraft research forum'.

How does that sound?

Not that the 'aircraft chit chat forum' would be full of crap, but general conversation about some projects and planes (oppinions), and 'aircraft research forum' full of detailed reasearch work by few members per a topic ('facts').. quality posts..

Well an aircraft chit chat forum would have potential, but a special aircraft research forum is out of the question.

That's what the research forum was introduced for...
We seriously could (should) have a research project on the B-2's anti-gravity technlogy!
I remember that Simon has/had some very interesting information on that...

And to there we could also move some of the 'topics' that have gone 'little' out of topic.. or?

To me this seems as a great idea..

Some Technical details

The F-117A production decision was made in 1978 with a contract awarded to Lockheed Advanced Development Projects, the "Skunk Works," in Burbank, Calif.

The first flight over the Nevada test ranges was on June 18, 1981, only 31 months after the full-scale development decision.

Streamlined management by Aeronautical Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, combined breakthrough stealth technology with concurrent development and production to rapidly field the aircraft.

The first F-117A was delivered in 1982, and the last delivery was in the summer of 1990. Air Combat Command's only F-117A unit, the 4450th Tactical Group, (now the 49th Fighter Wing, Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.), achieved operational capability in October 1983.

I requested it in the moderator forum, lets wait and see what happens
I think it would be a great addition to the aircraft forum!!
