Sonic weapons, repeat, sorry

Dont think this has been posted yet but here itis, was browsing the BBC and here it was large as life, had never heard ofanything like this beofre but maybe you guys have?

The just is;

The recent attack by pirates off of Somalia was fended off by a new sonic weapon, or helped fended off i should say.

Am guessing this is true but didnt have a foggy this existed untill now.

The weapon is not old. It has actually been shown a few times on television. It has been shown on the program "Mail Call" and another histroy channel program.
