Mr Blair told journalists discussions with Mr Hu would focus on the growing economic links between the two countries as well as international security issues and climate change. During their stay, the presidential couple will attend a banquet in the presence of the Queen at Buckingham Palace and visit an exhibition of Chinese art at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Trade between the UK and China is rising fast. It was worth $19.7bn (£11.4bn) in 2004, according to official Chinese sources. This was an increase of 37% on the previous year.

British direct investment in China by companies stands at about $13bn.

Several of the largest deals have involved the British-based banks, HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, taking stakes in China's leading banks.

this is a very good development as china is a growing economicly and is a very good investment since it would bring in more trade for both sides.
