How do you make them PC? Put bulbs on them in the shape of the Islamic crescent or something?

I can't believe this is happening everywhere, what a crock!

Ashame the muslim council of Great Britain is against the idea of changing Christmas...so you can keep your right wing views to yourself

the muslim council said last year that you shouldn't change Christmas to fit others, they said Christmas should promote its true meaning not western capitalism..

I never said that the Muslims wanted that. Often it's the PC liberals that try to things like introduce symbols from other religious holidays into Christmas to make it more "inclusive."

It's a real shame that so many of us care more about other cultures than we do about our own. It's a disgrace. We need people to stand up for us instead of betraying us so often for the benefit of others.

apparently lambeth council denied the claim.

its a shame that the best reasons they supposedly came up with for cutting back on the 'winter lights' was because it offends people, there are so many more realistic reasons to choose from. Looks like the media looking to stir up trouble.

I wouldn't care anyway, i hate Christmas, humbug!

When I see articles like this, I become somewhat depressed as much as I become sickened.

This isn't simply a case of PC gone too far I think. This is a product of PC in general as well as pandering to the squeakiest wheel to the point the powers in charge have been trained to jump at the slightest yelp with an almost pavlovian style. Its not even a thought anymore, its a reaction. It seems the only way to get anything done anymore is to form your own minority group and make a lot of noise and the powers that be will fall over like a house of cards in a stiff wind.

What I want to know is what even happened to the concepts of tolerance and understanding? Look at the television and newspapers, you can't even seem to find traces of words like christmas. it has to be something neutral and hopefully nonoffensive. happy holidays, seasons greetings, etc. can someone really tell me where we got this backwards?

I love the fact i'm not PC. If you were born here, you're an american, plain and simple. no hyphens or anything. you're not african-american, latino-american, etc.. you're just one more american slob like the rest of us. i'm sorry to tell you you're not overly unique. At times, I think that is how we got here, we've spent so much effort pumping people up, telling them they're unique and they should embrace this culture and that belief and so on but we seemed to stop teaching people that there is a whole world out there of different people and they all don't want to be like you.

Short answer to the would be whiners who think seeing a christmas tree will make their kids burst into flame.. lighten up and get over it. you'll just have to deal with it like the rest of us are. Are you so weak in our cultural grasp, in your ideals in your very faith that the mere sight of another religions symbols could make that much of a difference in you, your family or children? or is it all these have nots are too full of hate to allow anything else the tolerance they demand of others towards them.

But thats been the general rule for a long time, hasn't it?

I don't speak of any 'minority' in particular, or even in general. the groups we keep having to suffer are those small radicalized pockets that just seem to want to make noise and not melt into the big melting pots we claim our societies to be. Those pockets of professional loudmouths are unfortunately one other thing that seem to be common across all races, cultures and reigions.

** EDIT: some horrible spelling mistakes

Hey, it's a town, and the town council made the decision. If this were America, and, say, Scalia was issuing an opinion on the case in the Supreme Court, he'd say it was the people deciding their moral values at the local level, the way he argues subjects like abortion and homosexual marriage should be decided. And he's not exactly the PC type. The door swings both ways!

Things work differently here in the UK, the council is a bureacracy that is free to do as it sees fit with little input from the electorate, except on polling day. What comments have been made about it by local people, it doesn't seem to a popular move at all.

when did equality and diversity become the principle in free states and freedom not?

freedom isnt some subjective idea that should be limited when a group feels offended by local traditions foreign to their traditions, this is secular oppression disguised as democratic preservation.

equality doesnt equate to freedom, thats the flaw with socialism, equality can be easily perverted into equal oppression under systems who subjectively toss freedoms when they offend sections of their population.

a truly free society has religious freedom for all with seperation from law, not secularist oppression equally, let christians pray in school, decorate their town, have statues in public areas, etc AND jews, hindus, buddhists, whatever...equal denial is not freedom at all and leads to needless anger and bickering.
