All I have to say to the two kids that sparked this riot, well if they were still alive

Signs like this are not just for show. Entering a electricity sub-station is a great way to get electrocuted.

These teenagers might be up for a Darwin Award

I don't care what anybody says. Nobody will ever convince me Islam is a religion of peace. The rioting is ridiculous and has no justification once so ever. Why were the kids running from the police in the first place? I believe Europe really needs to start deporting muslims who don't respect the European laws back to their hellhole countries where they would probably get shot or beheaded for rioting. If these people feel that Europe is treating them like second class citizens and not respecting their customs then LEAVE! Its as simple as that.

:shakes head:

What in heck is wrong with these muslims? Seriously - WTF!?!?!?!

You burn a bunch of buildings down because your stupid kids ran from the police?!?!?!

The more I see of Islam, the more I believe it does not have a place in humanities future...

Maybe they expected a job and a neighborhood that wasn't overrun with crime. Maybe they didn't expect racism. The articles I read showed that there was somethign like 40% unemployment in these areas. not even Compton is that bad.

According to last year's unemployment data, less than half of the "eligible" residents of Baltimore city are employed. That is AFTER you remove the disabled, incarcerated, etc. So, I don't know about Compton, but Baltimore IS that bad. That said, we haven't seen riots here since the race-riots of the 1960's.

I have no data to back this it up, but it seems to me like most of these rioters are 2nd and 3rd generation sons of immigrants. Their fathers finally made it to France and worked hard, but their sons turned out rotton.

Happens alot here in Los Angeles, an immigrant father sneaks across the border...works his fingers to the bone, but the son ends up in baggy pants with gang tatoos all over him.

Yeah, I hear that. Pisses me off, because we're getting that problem up here. These Indians and Pakistanis move into Canada, work themselves stupid, and their kids get gang ink and knock over liquor stores for kicks. I can imagine it's worse there, with the ridiculous unemployment. I mean, no after-school things for these kids to do, except sell drugs and wreak havoc. Can't get a job, parents barely paying the rent, no work for me- I'd be pissed too. No excuse, but I can understand how they feel (or at least try to).

As for the commentary about Islam, it's not just muslims doign this, it's white kids too. Stupidity isn't confined by race lines, as many seem to forget.

i dont buy this poverty, unemployment, etc excuse one bit, i think its a situation of "hey we have free health care, free unemployment, etc, why cant we have more, lets riot since not having exactly what we want will excuse it" when you give, people expect more, i think its simple as that...

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. France was kind enough to bring these folk in from North Africa, Algeria and whatever hell hole they were born in

Just reading your first paragraph of text , I come to expect something layered with racism and rubbish, as usual LA Max, you don't dissapoint...

Of course I snickered at these riots at first, thinking: it serves them right...let France BURN!

How old are you? If this is meant to be a beginning of a serious topic you really ought to rethink your strategy...

Whats worse the Socialist Opposition party blamed the government for not "assimulating" these immigrants properly. They should be arrested on the spot for taking the rioters side.

Of course they should be. Ban all free speech... oh dear , this is extreme even for you...

Why is there so much hatred of france? And why so many comments of all Muslims going to back to their "hell hole countries"? These are riots - show some compassion and intelligence. There are plenty of neo nazi sites for some of you to play on..

Somehow I think the near 40% unemployment rate of 20 to 25 year old males of the "Algerian slums" of Paris has a lot to do with the situation.

The equally high unemployment rate of French 20 to 25 year olds, at around 27%, is also disturbing.

An unemployment rate almost twice as high as Germany, which is at least twice as high as the USA.

Something is wrong in the EU in general. And apparently in Paris, something specific. I know a lot of it is the influx of general labor from East Bloc countries that have recently entered the EU. But the lack of control or management on the EU level is sad.

Riots have a way of feeding upon themselves. The end result having little to do with the origins of the drama.

At best, it's a necessary statement of frustrations, and a bit of a release of those frustrations. In that respect, it's a vital part of social dynamics.

At worst, it's an orgy of destruction and violence, that the neighborhoods effected will have to live with for a long time. In that respect, it's a social stigma that will be applied to those that rioted, and their families.

Although portions of the riots in Paris are nothing more than peaceful demonstrations, it is apparently quite different when the sun goes down. It has become nothing more than urban combat. A battle that is seldom won.

Starpilot, your points are well taken.

The French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday that the riots in several Paris suburbs over the previous night were "not spontaneous" but rather "well organized."

if thats true than it would be all too easy to spread out the small number of police and cause some serious damage....1000 cops is a pretty thin blue line, Im sure the government is calling up reserves and military troops...if this goes into the weekend, than it will get real ugly.

I might get a warning from the mods for posting this video but it sums up how I feel after these riots in Britain, France and Denmark.

Sadly, that is the way it is going.

If things keep up like this, there is going to be a real race/religious war eventually - and this time fault will be squarely on the shoulders of Islam.

I have a feeling these riots are going to go on for much longer then this weekend. Islamic extremists seem to take events like these and pour fuel on the fire. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't already moved into the area and are responsible for half of the violence.

Imagine if Paris becomes a new playground for Al Queda.. and right now, this very day, is the perfect day to move in.

Did you know, that the Police who were chasing the two young men, knew that they were hiding in a electrical transforamtor, and that they said on the Phone:

"They are not going Anywhere now!"

Meaning, that the Cop is quilty of "Not Offering Help to the Man in Danger" and letting them fry to death.

A full investigation has been started by the president Chirac.

Can you say LA'92?

From Drudge:

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday that the riots in several Paris suburbs over the previous night were "not spontaneous" but rather "well organized."

"What we saw in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis overnight was not spontaneous, it was perfectly organized. We are looking into by whom and how," Sarkozy told French news channel i-tele.

The interior minister also said the government would not allow "troublemakers, a bunch of hoodlums, think they can do whatever they want" in the country.

"Well organized" riots. If this is all organized, wouldnt it be more appropriate to lebel this an attack, not a riot?

I say Paris is under siege, a well planned and caltulated attack with a specific goal.

Can you post a link to that article for us?
The third guy, who got away, said they didn't see the police chasing them.

I know why they ran though, one of the guys was a violent criminal.

cjad

The teenagers - Bouna Traore, 15, and Zyed Benna, 17 - were killed Oct. 27 while hiding from police in a power substation. Youths in their neighbourhood suspect police chased them to their deaths.

But the report, released by the Interior Ministry, said while police went to Clichy-sous-Bois to investigate a suspected intrusion on a building site, they did not chase the teenagers who were killed. A third teenager who was seriously injured told investigators they were aware of the dangers when they hid in the fenced-off substation, the report said.

It did not specifically address why the teens decided to run when police came to the neighbourhood. But it said Benna was known to police for having committed robbery with violence and that Traore was among those who trespassed on the building site.

No offence, i watched that movie and its like a Ad for the BNP.(British Nationalist Party)
Yes they pointed out that extremism leading onto death is VERY wrong.
But the movie was vague in the sense it says all muslims are like this, which is not the case.
While i agree that certain people should get kicked out.that is not the majority of muslims.
I am white, god believer, but i thought this was about denying ignorance, that video spouts ignorance.

But something does need to be done.

It was racist and and I was well aware of that, which is why I said I might get a warning for posting it.

I'm being more offensive and more hateful on this thread than I think I've ever been during my entire time on ATS because I'm really angry about what's happening in Europe.

I know that my views are going to upset some people, especially those who I normally find myself on the same side with on many issues but I just cant help it right now.

Ok i get u my friend, but since this is ATS, dont u think all that hate that builds up is what starts wars etc.
Which the ME is just as bad.

I heard somewhere that... where there is hate, before there is hate, there is fear, fear breeds hate, for what u fear, becomes hate.
...Just my opinion.....but its hard to practice what u preach.
