You know with the news that the Iraqi Ministry of Internal Affairs had a secret prison run by Sh'ite and tortuing Sunni's it just reminded me that
this sort of thing isn't that uncommon in the world. Down at the Rusty Pelican(my favorite watering hole) we have a saying, 'Pay back is hell!'
Pedro my macaw reminded me of another place and time, where secret prisons where the norm.

www.fair.org...

Kinda like yesterdays fish dinner, it all kinda smells bad after a while. Remind you of anything?

Hey - what do you know about me?

What do you know about my former Country? WHAT?

Because your ignorant answers are just proving one thing - and that is your own intelligence.

So please, talk some more, show everyone who you are and where you come from.

Some interesting stuff regarding the CIA secret prisons story. Here´s a recent post from The Yorkshire Ranter. He recommends Soj and I agree with him. I read Soj regulary (been doing it for a long time) and she has a very very good coverage on this. I think she is currently up to "part 8" on "Secret CIA Prison Network in Europe?". Recommended

The Yorkshire Ranter: Black Site: Update 2

November 26, 2005

If you want a round-up I endorse and recommend Soj. But there are some things I feel ought to be flagged. As anyone who reads this regularly ought to know, I suspect that Taszar airbase in Hungary, the location of "Camp Freedom", where Ahmed Chalabi's followers were trained for the invasion of Iraq is one of the sites. Last week, I revealed that an aircraft formerly used by the Bush-Cheney campaign had visited Taszar in April, 2003. I'm trying to find out who was using Boeing 727, N804MA at the time. Mr Hackert, director of sales for its owners Miami Air International, declined to answer an inquiry by email. Readers?

One may remember that an Iraqi general was about to be tried in Denmark on war crimes charges shortly before the war. He vanished, an event that attracted some attention at the time. This site, whose credibility I rather doubt, claims that General Nizar al-Khazraji was taken to Taszar on board a Gulfstream aircraft operated by the CIA. (Two Gulfstreams have been identified as taking part in prisoner transfers.) They also, fascinatingly, claim that the operation at Taszar was run by none other than disgraced New York cop Bernard Kerik!

about a year ago, I was told by a former Naval staff officer and specialist in international law who had visited the place that the infamous Camp X-Ray at Guantanamo looked very similar to the POW cage in Bondsteel, which he had visited in connection with war-crimes suspects from the Balkan war who were held there before transfer to the Hague Tribunal. He held that X-Ray looked like it did because the Americans military engineers built the same kind of structure anywhere if they were told to erect a camp for prisoners, whether POWs or Rumsfeld's "illegal combatants".

Deutche-Welle

New German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said he is concerned about reports that CIA aircraft have used German airports while transporting prisoners to alleged secret prison camps.

"What we have read is in fact grounds for concern," Steinmeier said in an interview with the weekly Bild am Sonntag published Sunday, one day before he is to travel to the United States.

Germany has already opened an investigation into a case in which an Egyptian suspect was reportedly secretly transported via Ramstein in western Germany, the largest US air base in Europe.

Public broadcaster ZDF and several newspapers have reported that more than 80 secret Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) flights touched down in Germany en route to secret centers where suspects, held without charge as "enemy combatants," were allegedly interrogated and torture.

I hope that the Newly Elected German Goverment will be More Decisive in events such as this one.
Germany was and still is the Crossroads of the Air-CIA Service, designed to carry so-called "Enemy Combatants" around the Detention Camps. So far more then EIGHRY CIA flights have touched down...

Fresh from our newsserver (sorry can't make a link).

Austria's National Security Council to meet on alleged CIA
flyovers Eds: UPDATES with air force commander denying there were suspicions that plane carried prisoners. CHANGES byline. Will be UPDATED after closed-door meeting set to begin at 1400 GMT AP Photos planned By SUSANNA LOOF= Associated Press Writer= VIENNA, Austria (AP) _ Austria's air force commander on Wednesday denied that the military ever suspected that an alleged CIA plane was carrying prisoners when it passed through the country's airspace in 2003. Maj. Gen. Erich Wolf told The Associated Press that the flight was declared as a civilian flight and was never seen as suspicious. Last week, Austrian media quoted Wolf as saying that authorities had evidence suggesting the plane was carrying captive terrorist suspects _ reports that triggered a flurry of protests from opposition politicians who demanded an investigation. Austria's National Security Council was to convene a special closed-door session later Wednesday on the flight, which authorities said flew from Frankfurt, Germany, over Austria on its way to the Central Asian nation of Azerbaijan on Jan. 21, 2003. The Social Democrats, the key opposition bloc, has called on Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel to lodge a formal protest with U.S. President George W. Bush. The Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights watchdog group, is investigating numerous allegations of similar CIA flyovers and landings in a dozen countries stretching from Scandinavia to Cyprus. Peter Pilz, a lawmaker in charge of security issues for the environmentalist Green Party, accused the Austrian government of"passive complicity"in allegedly allowing the 2003 flyover and insists there were other incidents. Pilz said it was"safe to assume"that the 2003 overflight was not an isolated incident, and accused the CIA of setting up dummy aviation companies to operate what he derisively called"Kidnap Air." Wolf was quoted last week as saying the army scrambled fighter jets to make contact with the C-130 Hercules transport plane, but did not suspect anything wrong at the time and that the government lodged no diplomatic protests. There have been no indications that any landings occurred in politically neutral and nonaligned Austria, which refused to grant the United States permission to use its airspace during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. The flights have become an issue in many European countries amid reports that U.S. intelligence may have transported suspected al-Qaida members and others en route to secret prisons in eastern Europe and other countries for interrogation.

The plot thickens.

Kidnap Air?

Not funny at all.

This is Somethig New.

Agence France-Presse on Yahoo!News

European Union Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini threatened sanctions for any EU nation found to have allowed secret CIA prison camps to operate on their soil.

"Should the accusations be accurate, I would be forced to draw serious consequences," Frattini said at a security conference in Berlin

He said that any EU country found to have harboured one of the reported prison camps could have their voting rights in the Council of Ministers, the body which groups the 25 EU heads of government, suspended.

Germany and other EU countries are demanding the US government provide "clarifications" after reports that the CIA flew suspected Islamist extremists to secret prisons in Europe.

Germany has already opened an investigation into a case in which an Egyptian suspect was transported via Ramstein in western Germany, the largest US airbase in Europe, to Egypt where his supporters say he was tortured.

A number of other European countries have opened inquiries into alleged CIA plane landings, including Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden.

Sanctions upon the European Countries?
What about Santctions on CIA?
Seriously, why does CIA not perform Torture and Interrogaton on AMERICAN Soil - but has to bring their Problems elsewhere, causing even more Trouble and Distrubance?

This is also interesting.

CIA Chief Goss Defends US Intelligence Agency

An Slovenian author Fran Milcinski in one of his short satire stories describes, how the landlord succesfully defended himself from a complaint of a resident that an apartment is infested with roaches. It goes something like that.

1. Excuse me sir, roaches? There are no roaches here.
2. Roaches are nice and unharmfull little animals, that don't want to hurt anybody.
3. You brought roaches with you.

And the comment of the director is a perfect match.

1. There are no secret prisons in Europe or anywhere else in the world.
2. We do not tourture people (suspected terrorist) in them.
3. When we talk about terrorists, the basics Laws about military prisoners do not apply, so we are not talking about torture but about "questioning" and "gathering intel".

Update!
This time CIA in UK!

Guardian

The transatlantic row over the secret transfer of terror suspects by the Bush administration took a new twist yesterday when it emerged that more than 300 flights operated by the CIA had landed at European airports.

According to flight logs seen by the Guardian, Britain was second only to Germany as a transit hub for the CIA, which stands accused of operating a covert network of interrogation centres in eastern Europe. Several European governments have launched urgent investigations into whether clandestine CIA flights were used in the aftermath of September 11 to transfer Islamist prisoners to third countries where they could be interrogated beyond the reach of international law.

The allegations have provoked a furore in Europe. On Tuesday the foreign secretary, Jack Straw, acting on behalf of the EU, asked the US to clarify whether planes containing terror suspects - known as "rendition" flights - had stopped off in Europe. He also raised the allegations made by Human Rights Watch earlier this month about covert interrogation centres.

The Guardian's survey of flight logs taken from 26 CIA planes reveals a far higher level of activity than previously known. The CIA visited Germany 96 times. Britain was second with more than 80 flights by CIA-owned planes, although when charter flights are added the figure rises to more than 200. France was visited just twice and neutral Austria not at all, according to the logs, which also reveal regular trips to eastern Europe, including 15 visits to the Czech capital Prague.

Well, it looks like the CIA Network is Vast.
Now it also involved UK - all togather more then 300 FLIGHTS by Air-CIA Landed in Europe!

This is very worrying. Especially as Jack Straw is doing the asking - the man's about as much use as a chocolate tea kettle. The whole thing is rather too Orwellian for my comfort. I've always been proud that the UK has such a strong alliance with the US. The thought that the policy of the US Government seems to be to condone torture and the secret transport of suspects - and I stress the word suspects is making me wonder if we shouldn't tell Bush to get lost and welcome the next US President with cautious optimism.

Looks like the "Black Site" CIA prisons have moved to Africa.

CBS News

Legal proceedings in progress in certain countries seemed to indicate that individuals had been abducted and transferred to other countries without respect for any legal standards," lawmaker Dick Marty said in a written report summarizing his investigations so far.

Marty told a news conference he believed the United States was no longer holding prisoners clandestinely in Europe and he believed they were moved to North Africa in early November, when reports about secret U.S. prisons first emerged in The Washington Post. He did not provide any other details.

"Based on what I have been able to learn, currently there are no secret detainees held by the United States in Europe," Marty told a news conference in Paris, adding that he believed prisoners had been taken to Morocco.

Marty has requested air traffic log books to try to determine flight patterns of several dozen suspect CIA airplanes. He has also requested satellite images of the Sczytno-Szymany airport in northeastern Poland and the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base in eastern Romania, after they were identified by Human Rights Watch as possible sites of clandestine CIA detention centers.

Update!

From Associted Press in NY Times

The head of a European investigation into alleged CIA prisons in Europe said Tuesday the purported Egyptian government document naming countries where such prisons existed is a new lead which must be followed up.

But Dick Marty, a Swiss senator leading the probe on behalf of the Council of Europe, said it still wasn't clear whether the document - a fax reportedly sent by satellite transmission from Egypt's Foreign Ministry to its embassy in London - was genuine.

The document's existence was reported Sunday by the Swiss weekly SonnstagsBlick. The fax, intercepted Nov. 15 by Swiss intelligence, reportedly said Egypt had confirmed through its own sources that the US intelligence agency had held 23 terrorist suspects from Iraq and Afghanistan at a military base in Romania.

It also said there were similar US detention centers in Ukraine, Kosovo, Macedonia and Bulgaria, according to the Swiss newspaper, which printed a copy of a Swiss summary of the fax.

So.

The US Archipelago of Detention Camps is getting Bigger, by the Day.

I wonder if they find a Detention Camp here in Slovenia, where I live.

How can I the US talk about freedom, justice and to consider them selfs the good side when they are using the methods of those who they want to erradicate from this world. How can I carry the flag of Good if I am doing Evil??
Using that methods, the US are no different from the terrorists and that doesn't help them win the war against the terrorism.

Uh, can you say We didn't start all this crap*?

The enemies of this nation are relying on the pacifists of this nation to rally behind them. Are you really self-conscience about what's happening?

We've got to accept the fact that we can't win this war without accepting the fact that we must act without any remorse.

Having a consciense will only get you KILLED and that's not what we want now is it (unless you're the enemy of my nation)?

BTW, the CIA and the building at Langley,Va is not suppose to exist. I think this is all propaganda perpertrated by the bleeding-heart, leftist liberals.

Oh yes you did! You started all that crap* with Iraq. We all know the war was illegal and the US didn't have any solid arguments to justify the invasion. Most of the so called terrorists in Iraq are nothing but people who fight against an invasion force, the same way you and many americans would fought if a country invaded the US.
And if there is no morality in war, like you defend, so the unconventional acts of the Iraq resistance are tottaly acceptable.
As for the real terrorism.... Are you shure you didn't started? Maybe the foreign policy of the US helped to create this kind of phenomenon.
We all know that this way to fight terrorism only create more terrorism. The real terrorists use the way the US are making this war to gather more ppl to his side. They say: See what they do?They invade, they kill with their bombs, they torture. One day could be you or your family. Join us.

Violence only brings more violence. This way to fight terrorism only makes the terrorists groups stronger. With this policy the US is helping to perpatuate violence and terrorism in this world.

Good Grief. I really don't believe it. So acting without recourse to the law, acting with barbarity and without conscience is going to end the war quickly? NO! It's going to fuel the insurgency still further! It will make the USA hated amongst ordinary Iraqis and will make matters worse, not better! We already have a situation where US soldiers are not being told about cultural sensitivities in the area, who are not being told a hell of a lot of things about the way that people think in the Middle East and who have shot a lot of people dead for needless reasons. Abu Ghraib was the biggest own goal in the history of the entire war and was entirely down to execrable management by the US Army. US tactics have been too heavy-handed, there has been far too much collateral damage and hearts and minds are not being won.
And speaking as a liberal, I think that pointing out the truth is not the act of a traitor, it's the act of a patriot. If people don't know it' broken, then it can't be fixed. It's as simple as that.
