At about 12:30 AM EST, overwhelming traffic brought down the database server whould could not keep up with the requests (even the "lite version" of the new code for guests).

Obviously, we're back up... but for now, members only until I get some real information on the cause... but most likely, we've simply gotten too big for one web server.

damn this sucks.
I'm at school right now, and I can't access the cosmic forumto discuss this. I'll be there in 3 - 4 hours...

So its just requests that are kiling it, not bandwidth usage? Must be a ton of people trying to lurk.

Yeah, i noticed.. that the site was down..

Nearly ruined my day as thought that it will never again be up.

Btw, what happened to the ATS CHAT?

Are 'we' getting new one anytime soon? I hope..

I just got an email from another member of the board (UniversalFiction), he is unable to access the forum.

He just gets the Forums are temp...etc.

I take it is because he logs out when he finishes a session.

Is there a URL to let him log back in ?

I'm not 100% sure but my guess is that he hasn't got the magic cookie.

When we're running on members only you need to have the magic cookie.It's the one that makes you small so that you can enter ATS world.

But u assured william, that the new hosting of ATS was big enough to host 3x as much as 2 months ago, what happened?
We got overwhelmed with guests¿?
Too much data on the site?
The bandwith?
What is basicly producing the problem, because a lot times ATS has troubles, but not because of admins, because of the hosting (i don´t complaint about the hosting, seems to be solid and good) but something must be wrong...

There appears to be a suddent interest in ATS... dunno why. Over the past two days, the number of "clients" attempting "connections" has trippled. And that's a trippling of our almost 250% increase since moving to the new server in April.

So... that means a 750% increase in interest in coming to ATS (there are a couple of other small sites on the box, but ATS is more than 95% of all traffic). The problem is, when a machine gets overwhelmed like this, we actually end up serving fewer pages, because it can't keep up with requests... and people get frustrated and tend not to browser as much content.

In the 1 hour since bringing the server back online, we're already at a level 2x our typical daily peaks.

Maybe I better "low-key" ATS at school.....I been spreading this site all over campus..........................

Well, I'm glad that it was only bandwidth, the length of time it was out I thought some hackers had taken over.

Damn my paranoid nature.

I have noticed, though, ATS hasn't been loading at the speed it used to. I suppose this is the increase in interest! Theres always a downside to being popular.

I did mention the sight on the phone and I'm in the U.S. so maybe our best friends in Tel Aviv got wind of it? Hey, I just got back in. I always wipe my slate clean when I leave work everyday for my own security reasons..temp files, cookies, and all. Guess I didn't have the majik kookie either. I figured as much and tried 3 othjer puters here hoping I might have forgotten one in one of the labs but no such luck. I cover my trail all too well on these things and probably will contonue to do so even with these little inconveniences.

Yeah, I got a bit frustrated when the website said that only members could enter the forums, especially since I couldn’t even get to the login site, hehe. Was desperately looking for a way to log in.
