We all know that John Wilkes Booth killed President Lincoln 140 years ago. But what most history books don't tell you is that Booth was Catholic, and that the Catholic church had backed the South during the Civil War.

Pastor Charles Chiniquy (an ex-priest) makes this claim in his book "Fifty Years in the 'Church' of Rome." The book first came out in the late 19th century, and I have an abridged copy (it had been out of print until Chick Publications picked it up).

Read it online

Chapter 60, which talks about the Civil War. Here's a quotation from it:

The mission of Rome being to teach that the inferior, the people, must obey his superior, just as the corpse obeys the hand which moves it, or as the stick obeys the arm which directs it, she knows well that she cannot fulfill her mission and attain her object so long as this government of a free, sovereign people, stands; she is, then, bound to oppose, paralyze, and destroy that government when she finds her opportunity.

With lynx eye, she watched that opportunity: and with anxiety and rage she spied from her cradle the onward march of this young giant Republic. She knew that it was in the bosom of every true citizen of the United States to propagate those accursed (by her) principles of equality, fraternity, and liberty all over the world. She saw that the irresistible influence of those principles were felt on the most distant nations, as well as on the poor, miserable Irish people, she was keeping under her heavy and ignominious yoke; she understood that there was a real danger for her very existence, if those principles would continue to spread; that her slavery star would go down as the liberty star would rise on the horizon. In a word, Rome saw at once that the very existence of the United States was a formidable menace to her own life. Already she had seen the chains of two millions of her Irish slaves melted at the simple touch of the warm rays of liberty which had fallen from the stars and stripes banners. From the very beginning she perfidiously sowed the germs of division and hatred between the two great sections of this country, and she felt an unspeakable joy when she saw that she had succeeded in dividing its South from the North, on the burning question of slavery. She looked upon that division as her golden opportunity. To crush one party by the other, and reign over the bloody ruins of both, has invariably been her policy. She hoped that the hour of her supreme triumph over this continent was come. She ordered her elder son, the Emperor of France, to keep himself ready to help her to crush the North, by having an army in Mexico ready to support the South, and she bade all the Roman Catholic bishops, priests, and people to enroll themselves under the banners of slavery, by joining themselves to the party of the Democracy. And everybody knows how the Roman Catholic bishops and priests, almost to a man, obeyed that order. Only one bishop dared to disobey. Above everything, it was ordered to oppose the election of Lincoln at any cost. For, from the very first day that his eloquent voice had been heard, a thrill of terror had gone through the hearts of the partisans of slavery. The Democratic press, which was then, as it is still now, almost entirely under the control of the Roman Catholics, and the devoted tool of the Jesuits, deluged the country with the most fearful denunciations against him. They called him an ape, a stupid brute, a most dangerous lunatic, a bloody monster, a merciless tyrant, ect., ect. In a word, Rome exhausted all her resources of language, she ransacked the English dictionary to find the most suitable expressions to fill the people with contempt, hatred, and horror against him. But it was written in the decrees of God that honest Abraham Lincoln should be proclaimed President of the United States, the 4th of March 1861.

Here's a quote from President Lincoln:

"This war would never have been possible without the sinister influence of the Jesuits. We owe it to Popery that we now see our land reddened with the blood of her noblest sons. Though there were great differences of opinion between the South and the North, on the question of slavery, neither Jeff Davis nor any one of the leading men of the Confederacy would have dared to attack the North, had they not relied on the promises of the Jesuits, that under the mask of Democracy, the money and the arms of the Roman Catholic, even the arms of France, were at their disposal, if they would attack us. I pity the priests, the bishops and the monks of Rome in the United States, when the people realize that they are, in great part, responsible for the tears and the blood shed in this war; the later the more terrible will the retribution be. I conceal what I know, on that subject, from the knowledge of the nation; for if the people knew the whole truth, this war would turn into a religious war, and it would, at once, take a tenfold more savage and bloody character, it would become merciless as all religious wars are. It would become a war of extermination on both sides. The Protestants of both the North and the South would surely unite to exterminate the priests and the Jesuits, if they could hear what Professor Morse has said to me of the plots made in the very city of Rome to destroy this Republic, and if they could learn how the priests, the nuns, and the monks, which daily land on our shores, under the pretext of preaching their religion, instructing the people in their schools, taking care of the sick in the hospitals, are nothing else but the emissaries of the Pope, of Napoleon, and the other despots of Europe, to undermine our institutions, alienate the hearts of our people from our constitution, and our laws, destroy our schools, and prepare a reign of anarchy here as they have done in Ireland, in Mexico, in Spain, and wherever there are any people who want to be free, ect."

Fairly interesting topic...not sure I buy it.
I discovered at a young age that my family fought fo rthe South during the War Between the States. Ever since I've been a dilligent researcher of that war.
First of all, the SOuth hated Catholicism. This was due to the fact that the majority of Southerners were Scots-Irish who had fled that part fo the world to America to worship how they pleased, not how the Catholic church demanded of them.
Although Irish, Jews and even Chinese immigrated to the SOuth before and during the war, most of the Norths immigrants were irish, Germans. Most of the Norths immigrants were Catholic, most fo the SOuths were protestant.
In the TransMissisippi theater of operations (Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico Arizona) Rebel troops were loath to take German immigrants prisoners. Mainly because they were seen as the Hessians of modern times but also because of the fact that many Germans were Catholics.

Not shooting down your theory outright. just clarifying a little from my own knowledge, firsthand, of Southern culutre. Also remember that the war was not fought over slavery or any rtoher moral issue, but rather the Constitutionality of Lincolns proposed tarriffs and the un Jeffersonian Federalism that Lincolns Republican party represented.

Also (Read Jim Marrs "Rule by secrecy" for more in depth) consider the Rothschilds influence on the coming of the Civil War. It was even proposed in a meeting of the bankers that a "crisis" be created in America whereby certain states might secede and be forced to rely on European loans to survive.

I don't think the South as a whole had to be Catholic, really. The Vatican backed the Confederacy. People were being antagonized on both sides--they were being played.

I think that's the most tragic aspect of the war, that we were played.
I may disagree with you about the Jesuits and the Catholic Church beign behind the war, but the fact remains that 258,000 sons of the South and 365,000 sons of the North died in this UNNECESSARY war.

I belive that the origins of the war actually lie within the halls of the capitals of Europe. Europe was a society ruled by Kings and Emperors at the time fo the Civil War. Before the American Revolution, Monarchy and absolutism were unquestioned in Europe. Then those ragamuffin Yank's had to go and force Cornwallis to surrender on the Virginia Peninsula at Yorktown (With French and Spanish help of course)
This gave the French the idea to rebel which ultimately led to that troll Napoleon (They called him a troll, yet grudgingly had to admit that even though he was a despot himself, he was a brilliant man who changed the face of Europe forever and ultimately human history)
Napoleon was eventually defeated but the legacy of free rule and free markets spread by French troops all across Europe failed to die.
Att he time fo the American secession crisis, the houses of power in Europe saw a chance to gain their revenge and a measure of control.
America was growing at an alarming rate and it was undoubted that within a few years her economy would allow it to become a financially independant nationm no longer dependant on European banking loans. only a few years after the civil war German chancellor Otto Von Bosmark was quoted:
"The division of the United States into federations of equal force was decided long before the Civil War by the high financial powers of Europe. These bankers were afraid that the United States, if they remained in one block and as one nation, would attain economic and financial independance, which would upset their financial domination over the world. The voice of the Rothschilds prevailed..."
The Rothschilds and the Illuminatti planned and sent agents into the United States to bring about the forment of civil war for their own sick financial gain.
Niall Ferguson, a Rothschild researcher and biographer wrote:
"There is a substantial and unexplained gap in private Rothschild correspondence between 1854 and 1860 and that nearly all copies of outgoing letters from the London Rothschilds were destroyed at the orders of successive senior partners."
What isn't known all that widespreadly (I do beleive I created a word) is that Britian and France sent troops to Cananda and Mexico respectively during the Civil War. Europe hoped that the South would win or either force the war to a political stalemate, allowing Europe to swallow both weakend halves.
Fortunately for the US and unfortunately for European ambitions, the Confederacy was a little too successfull.
Despite a defeat at Shiloh Tennessee (April 6-7 1862, 23,000 losses) the South had inflicted heavier losses on Grant's Fedrals and had caused many in the North to resent the war. Anti-war movements erupted throughout the North not long following the bloodbath at Shiloh.
In The East Robert E Lee was named commander of the Army of Northern Virginia after Gneral Joseph Johnston was severly injured by shrapnel att he battle of Seven Pines. Beginning on June 25th 1862 Lee launched a series of relentless offensives against the more numerous Federals under McClellan and over a period of seven days drove the Federal army from the gates of Richmond, although at a ccost to both sides of 36,000 men.
Lee then stormed northwards, stomping a Federal army at Second Mannassas and invading Maryland.
In the West, Rebels counterattacked into Northern Arkansas, Vicksburg repelled the US navy, and Braxton Bragg assumed command of the Army of Tennesse and launched a campaign that retook Northern Alabama, Central Tennessee and reached nearly to the border of Ohioh!
Lincoln then issued the Emancipation Proclomation.
The proclomation (although actually freeing no slaves) was a brilliant political move. It kept in check the Europeans by giving the war a moral pretext (false though it was) which kept the European populace with siding with any overt military action in favor of the South.
It was to be issued after a big Federal victory...One never came.
Lee fought McClellan to a draw at Antietam and 24,000 Americans lost their lives in a single day of combat. in the West Bragg won the battle of Perryville Kentucky on October 8 1862, but was forced to retreat due to beign badly outnumbered and to having severe supply difficulties.
in the end the Europeans never got their chance to go to war with either Americas.
Lincoln firmed the northern economy by getting congressional approval to issue paper curerency without the backing of any gold standard. Thye were printed using green ink hence the name greenbacks. This fiat money negated the need for European loans and as a result the Northern economy rebounded while the Southern economy, struggling through a blockade by the Federal navy, crumbled. (It helped that Czar Alexander II saw a way to inflict a mortal blow to the French and British should they intervene in the AMerican war. He stationed fleets off the coast of Virginina and a fleet at San Francisco to interdict those nations commerce lanes should war erupt, I don'tt hink Brit and France wanted a war with the Confedracy, the Federal government and the Russians all at once)
By early 1865 the South was bled dry. The Missisippi River was in Federal hands as was all of Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, most of Arkansas, half of Louisiana, and Northern Virginia. The Shenandoah Valley was burnt to the ground, Georgia was demolished as was South Carolina by a vengefull Federal army and the two principal Confederate armies were in no shape to afect the outcome. The Army of Tennesse had been virtually destroyed as a fighting force in Hoods irredeemable Tennessee campaing of Nov-December 1864 and Lees ANV was bottled up in a seige of Richmond/Petersburg.
in steps John Wilkes Booth. booth was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle and has been established through other Conspiracy researchers (Like Jim Marrs) to be connected to the illuminatti, the Italian Carbonari and the Rothschilds through his relationship with Secretary of War for the Confedracy, Judah P. Benjamin. (A practicing Jew by the way)
It is not unconceivable that the Rothschilds placed a hit on President Lincoln largely for the outcome of the war and for the issuing of a seperate US currency.
Isn't it ironic that our other assasinated President, JFK, also issued debt-free currency?
From Jim Marrs book "Rule by Secrecy":
it is historic fact that the Lincoln assasination case was a complex plot including smuggling and kidnapping plans that involved Knights of the Golden Circle agents (The KGC were an offshoot of the Masonic Movement) 'The fact remains that the story of why Abraham Lincoln was murdered can only be completed within the confines of the Confederate cabal in Canada [which included KGC members as well as British agents]...' noted conspiracy author Starkey. The plot also involved some of the highest offcies in Washington, including Lincolns Secretary of War Edwin Stanton."
Sounds eerily reminiscent of JFk and LBJ does it not?
While the Catholic Church may have been involved in the wars plannings in some way might be certain (When Emporer Augustine initiated the Church as the sole Church of the Roman Empire, it can be said that the Catholic Church is an extension to this day even of the Roman Empire) I beleive that it was rather the bankers of the European nations which conspired to cause this most tragic of American wars.
