A Palestinian suicide bomber has blown himself up infront of an Israeli sandwich stand in the city of Hadera. 20 people are reported injured with no fatalities as yet. The bombing is the first in Israel since August 28th.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in a market in the Israeli coastal city of Hadera on Wednesday, causing at least 20 casualties, emergency officials and radio stations said.

The explosion, the latest blow to an eight-month-old truce, occurred in front of a sandwich stand in Hadera, a frequent target of attacks during a five-year-old Palestinian uprising.

It was the first bombing inside the Jewish state since August 28, when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to Beersheba's central bus station, wounding 20.

Israel has been on edge after the latest flare-up of violence in and around the Gaza Strip, one of the worst since an Israeli pullout from the coastal territory last month.

Israeli warplanes and artillery pounded an area of northern Gaza early on Wednesday in response to militants firing a rocket into southern Israel. Armed groups have vowed revenge for Israel's killing of a top Islamic Jihad commander in the West Bank on Monday.

Apparently this suicide bombing (which killed 4 Israelis immediately, with several more who are in hospital near brain death) was supposed to be some kind of "eye for an eye response" to the Israeli assasination three days ago of a 26-year old "top Islamic Jihad commander", Fathalla Saadi, who was assassinated with one of his associates by the Israelis in in Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank on Monday October 24.

This kind of thing is called "continuing the retributive cycle of violence" which is the direct result of the military occupation of the West Bank since April 1967...

The Americans have been getting a taste of this mechanism first hand in Iraq over the past two years, and until the two sides start talking and stop shooting/bombing it can only continue ad inifinitum.

Oh plus ca change....!
