the guitar solo in the live version of Starseed by Our Lady Peace is pretty sweet too....
and even though its not really a solo... the bridge in Not Enough by Our Lady Peace is pretty damn heavy too especially live

Here's another one I thought of, and I can't believe it wasn't the first one that came to mind.

Everyone who thinks Eddie van Halen or Slash or any of those other contemporary speed players are the ultimate needs to give a listen to Alvin Lee of 10 Years After. Snag a version of "I'm Goin' Home" and you'll see what the current crop owes to him. Just incredible.

It's on the Woodstock album as well as the "Undead" album. I saw 10 years After live in concert (actually, my first concert) in '71. Damn, they were good.

Surfing with the Alien by Joe Satriani

The part where he launches into a full throttle pick tapping solo is just insane!!

More than a Feeling by Boston.

Very coo twinl harmony guitar melodies. Pretty catchy too!

Hanger 18 by Megadeth

Some nice speed metal from Marty. I think theres abouyt 10 solos in that song now that I think about it.....

Yeah, I know... this isn't "Your Favorite Band" . . . but:

Don't forget the incredibly talented trio from Canada!

RUSH wikipedia

Geddy Lee (formerly Gary Weinrib)
Alex Lifeson (real name Alexander Zivojinovich)
Neil Peart (pronounced: 'Peert')

They're not your everyday drums, bass, guitars and vocals ensemble, as these 3 provide the equivalent of so much more.

A true percussionist [nuf said]
A lead vocalist who plays bass and keyboards...at the same time
A world-class guitarist.

On a side note:
One of the few bands of this caliber that can bring to the stage what they do in the studio.

Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine

Tom Morello is my favorite guitarist, for his experimentation and overall great sound.

Any talk of great solo's has to include this guy

From Texas Flood, covering Hendix Little Wing to the instrumental Lemmy you feal his heart bleed through the strings.

With the extra wide neck, thicker strings, left handed tremolo and the way he tunes it up,theres nothing ordinary about Stevie Ray Vaughan.

How can we have this thread without mentioning any time Randy Rhoads picked up a guitar?

Must also give Ray Davies of The Kinks a nod on their version of Erruption leading up to You Really Got Me Now on One for the Road.

Ahhh, the brilliant Randy Rhoads....

He was taken from us too soon...... in a few years time Mr Eddie Van Halen would have had some competion from him...

At least his parting from Ozzy gave us Mr Jake E Lee. He was brilliant too.

well if your gonna throw that one in... you gotta throw in "sorrow" off momentary lapse of reason too! terminal frost has some good guitar on it too, but its really the horns that shine on that song.
