I have just read the article below on the BBC news website, if free access is given to communities and cities in America will this not mean that the government will be able to collect more information about what people are doing, maybe even influence their web searches etc.

i know im probably way out, on the face of it this looks like a good deal for people, but who is paying for it and how?

there's more on this WiFi

there is an archived article about the pros-v-cons and other antics & leveraging by municipalities concerning wi-fi & the broadband cable ISPs
@ www.nytimes.com

or better yet, review this article (it has hyper links to them & others)
www.dailywireless.org...

-> which reveals that mr. Ziari & partner Steve Davey
are busy with many projects for Homeland Security
also included is the Umatilla Chemical Weapons Depot
which is part of the [Free]! "700 Mile WiFi Cloud" in eastern Oregon
which has been operational for 2 years now,

weigh & consider the 'Free WiFi Cloud' in your neck of the woods...
depending on your own spin & skew
it's either a blessing or a diabolical device
