I recieved this email today and it touched me. I wanted to share this all of you. It seems there is a counter conspiracy taking place and I see a divine hand in it.

No link was given. It speaks for itself.

"Subject: Courage

This Pastor has guts!! Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer
given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer
still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the
new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual
generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and
to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to
those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We
have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded
laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it
choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have
neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our
neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air
with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression We
have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it
enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin
and set us free. Amen!"

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during
the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where
Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47
of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving
international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and
Korea.
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The
Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than
any other he has ever aired.
With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and
wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one
nation under God."
If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends. "If you don't
stand for something, you will fall for everything."
Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your e-mail
list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the world. How many
people in your address book will not receive this prayer.....do you have
the guts to pass it on? "

found this ;

The Truth:
This event actually happened in the Kansas House (not Senate) in Topeka on January 23, 1996. Joe Wright is the pastor of Central Christian Church in Wichita and was guest chaplain that day. He prayed a prayer of repentance that was written by Bob Russell, pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. According to an article in the Kansas City Star from January 24, 1996, his prayer did stir controversy and one member of the legislative body walked out. Others criticized the prayer. The controversy didn't end there. Later that year in the Colorado House, Republican representative Mark Paschall angered lawmakers by using Joe Wright's prayer as the invocation. Some members there also walked out in protest.

Paul Harvey did air the story and the prayer. He got such a large response that a phone number was set up to handle the calls. He's aired it a couple more times since.

how us humans like to re-label things to make them suit our purpose. I believe I understand what the pastor was saying here and agree. Self-righteousness and personal rationalization/justification is a big problem.

I ran across this some time back--totally cheered and hip-hip-hurrahed for the fact of this man's humility. And try to keep it mind, when my own ego starts to show signs of wanting to get back up...

(down, boy, down!--just play dead until we are dead--that's a good boy)

This story is a prime example of what this thread title summarizes--basically the way we are conditioned/driven/steered/bred in modern society makes the ego something that people seem to want to hold on to--fake humility is always available, though--in bushels. Of course, that kind always comes at the expense of another's reputation or even self-esteem.

But it is still far too rare of an instance when someone is willing to bluntly just declare their imperfections/shortcomings/poor judgment/selfishness. Their SINS. We sin against each other because we feel there is something about ourselves that we must somehow hold up or sustain. We all do it--but for the most part, I truly believe it is not malicious, but rather simple blindness--ignorance in the purest definition of the word.

What makes us boo-boo and blunder? Stupidity. Hardly! I mess up a lot but I am by no means stupid. Hee hee. Ego. Self-preservation was my personal biggest handicap--still is, but at least these days I am aware of it instead of oblivious (but *ouch* that hurts worse than ignorant bliss). I am not one to blame another party solely for disaster in which I was a willing partner, such as the media's influence on our collective human psyche. What I mean is, we created the media, we control it even if it be in a dysfunctional inverted fashion--so its effects upon our mind boil down to the mind games we play on ourselves...

But that's the idea behind a statement such as 'a conspiracy of the spirit,' isn't it?

Anyway, I have come to the perception that many TV shows these days-- like Survivor and those live-together reality shows--are really detrimental to both the individual and common human objective in this age. They encourage a person to operate on a 'me-first' (or in the case of Survivor, 'me-last') mentality--and I don't see how such thinking can move us toward unity as a race (human) or help us on our individual ego-extermination duty.

And, Yes, that is why we are all here--all of us for the same reason--if you don't agree now then when it suddenly clarifies you'll remember that I told you so...

We are born into this world on the strength of our newborn ego--so that we can nourish and develop our sense of self as full as possible (fatten it up) in order to send it to the spiritual slaughter house of our choice (or 'stab it with our steely knives'--we must all kill our beast!).

Once we know we should definitely tell others what we've found out--maybe this is one conspiracy we can truly eradicate in a lifetime!
