A trial vaccine has been created which works against H5N1, also known as bird flu. Hungary's health minister has said that a bid flu vaccine is in development and has appeared to be effective in these early stages. The jab protects humans and animals against the lethal bird flu virus. Britain and the US are also involved in testing of the H5N1 vaccine. This does not phase out the real fear of the H5N1 mutating and causing a human pandemic, which this vaccine would prove useless. Experts believe it will have between four and six months for the time a pandemic flu strain is found to develop and manufacture a vaccine.

Experts say it is only a matter of time before the strain acquires this ability, causing a flu pandemic which could kill as many as 50,000 people in the UK.

Hungary's health minister Jenö Rácz was among several dozen Hungarians who underwent tests of the trial H5N1 vaccine.

He said: "The results are preliminary but I can say with 99.9% certainty that the vaccine works."

This is news about bird flu I like to hear, rather than ‘new strains found in this country’. It seems that this vaccine is no help if the virus mutates which is the main problem we are faced.
