Rival tribal tension has resulted in 37 bus passengers, including 8 women, being hacked to death in two separate attacks in India's Assam state
today. 22 people were hacked to death in the first attack in the tea and oil rich district of Karbi Anglong by the rival Dimasa tribe and in another
attack the same tribe attacked a village which resulted in 15 people dead and 60 bamboo huts destroyed. Many of the victims were killed when the
Dimasa militants stopped two buses and dragged out the people, hacking them to death and dismembering the bodies before throwing them back on the
buses which were by this time burning.

"After the second attack Dimasa militants forcibly took away many villagers to a nearby jungle and they are still missing," he aded.
The Karbi and Dimasa have been fighting for years over land in Assam, home to several dozen tribal and ethnic groups and separatist and tribal
militant outfits.
In the past two weeks, at least 72 people have been killed in ethnic violence, a majority of them Karbis.
"Additional troops have rushed to the area to control the situation and rescue kidnapped villagers," said Himata Biswa Sarma, Assam state's official
spokesman.
India's northeast, comprising seven states, is home to more than 200 tribes and ethnic groups and is circled by China, Bhutan, Bangladesh and
Myanmar.
The region has been wracked by separatist and tribal insurgencies for more than 50 years.

This sort of action is so sad to see in this supposed civilized 21st century world. Unfortunately man's barbaric streak and lust for power and
supremecy has still not been defeated and subdued by mankind. It seems only a dream for mankind to live side by side and at peace with each other and
our differences.
