NEWS: Neo-Nazi Demonstration Turns into Riot, page 1

A riot has erupted in Toledo, Ohio, between police and those who had been protesting a Neo-Nazi demonstration in their neighborhood. The police had moved in to halt the demonstration when the protesters began attacking the police. Fox News reports that there were only about a dozen Neo-Nazis present and the demonstration never actually took place. The riot began when some 100 "Anti-Neo-Nazis" began throwing rocks and eggs. Considerable property damage has been reported.

A neo-Nazi group's scheduled march against "black crime" in North Toledo, Ohio, sparked rioting Saturday afternoon.

Police and SWAT teams moved in, and several people were arrested. Toledo Mayor Jack Ford blamed "gang members" for the violence.

The march was called off, and none of the National Socialist Movement group's 80 members who showed up to participate was arrested, according to Bill White, a spokesman for the group.

Toledo police could not provide CNN with any information on the rioting.

White's group promotes itself as America's Nazi Party and said that it was protesting black gangs, which it claimed were harassing white residents.

The group said it had received support from Toledo's white citizens and community activists.

White blamed the riot on Toledo police, saying they intentionally changed the group's march route to make it collide with a counter-demonstration.

About 20 members from both the International Socialists Organization and One People's Project showed up, and some handed eggs to African-American residents to throw at the Nazi marchers, White said.

Most of the violence happened when residents, who had pelted the Nazi marchers with bottles and rocks, took out their anger on police, said Brian Jagodzinski, chief news photographer for CNN affiliate WTVG.

The actual news story is not what one would have expected upon hearing the first reports. In this instance, it was those who occupy the high moral ground who began the violence and out-numbered the Neo-Nazis some 10 to 1 or more. More will be added to this submission as it becomes available.

Details are sparse at this point, but one reporter called it complete "civil disobedience." Civil disobedience seems like such a benign term, usually associated with left-wing types, like enviornmentalists, peaceniks, and such, not Nazis or anarchists. Fox is working on getting a video feed now. Print reports should be appearing shortly and I will post one and some links when they appear.

oddly enough, it seems people protesting the march started throwing rocks causing police to use tear gas to clear the area and cancel the march.

you know, I always love a good nazi forum. there's really nothing better to see how good your education was.

Seems this was the excuse the neo-nazi group used to stage the demonstration. Apparently the only violence and aggression was started by the Anti-neo-nazi protesters. While I believe the neo-nazis are idiots, what are the anti-neo-nazi protesters proving? If you don't agree with somthing, throw rocks at it? Bad form, indeed.

Fox News is showing pictures of large groups of what appears to blacks racing through the streets of Toledo. There are reports that the protesters are angry at police and the city for allowing the Neo-Nazis to assemble. Current reports are that there are about one hunderd rioting protesters.

The demonstration was staged in this particular neighborhood because of gang violence directed at whites. Protestors began throwing rocks at the police.

Some might remember that maybe twenty years ago that the ACLU won a case in Illinois in support of a Neo-Nazi group wanted to march in Skokie, Ill, a city with a large Jewish community.

Fox New is currently showing a large group of blacks attacking a destroying what appears to be a gas station. A picket fence was destroyed and the pickets were used to break into the station and now they are looting the station. The scene is utter chaos and senseless.

A Toledo TV reporter is saying that the situation has been going on for about five hours. Protesters are attacking homes where residents are trapped because the neighborhood had been cordoned off by police.

Let them have their protest, let them do what they want and do not get violent with them it is much worse than stopping them from spreading their filth.

Nothing like creating support for your opponent's cause. Here you have the insignificant neo-nazis. What happens? The stupid people protesting against them do nothing but make the Nazi's look like civilized, superiors. Now all the swastika goons have to do is say "Look, see, we told you they were uncivilized, violent animals"

It will do, the whole point of the Neo-Nazi protest was to get the 'black' community against them. Show the 'black' community attacking them and giving them some good publicity. Wait till they spin this one out of control in their newspapers.

They'd just make it up if it didn't happen anyway, at least now some people got the satisfaction of stomping on some of them. Neo-nazis and the like represent 1% of the american public, they have to lie cheat and steal in order to get any press. Today they get to have an actual group of people rioting, tommrrow they will fabricate a story. These people are crooks and liars in the first place, the fact that there was an actual distrubance doesn't even matter at this point.
