also unions got work conditions greatly improved back in the early XXth century. corperations need to adapt and overcome...something they can learn from their foreign competitors(sp)

A good union is all about decent conditions and treatment of workers. Should the unions succeed it does give them a certain amount of political power. For instance in the UK the Labour party emerged to represent the working class who were not catered for by the existing Liberal (middle class) and Conservative (upper class) parties.

Unions give a voice to the working class. This can then translate into power, when used properly this power can redifine a nation, just look at the Attlee government after WW2, had Churchill stayed on its quite possible that the workhouse would still be around today.

Why would unions want to destroy corporations? Who would employ there members then?

Unions prevent sweatshop conditions. Why do you think that dictatorships around the world supress them? Because a non union workforce is easier to exploit and has no voice, so should an individual complain they are sacked, with no ability to argue their case.

Unions prevent this. A few more unions in the sweatshops of S.E Asia could alliviate the suffering of millions. But of course that would be 'wrecking' multinationals such as Nike by making them pay a decent wage to people. Unaccptable really, when the dollar is far more important than quality of life.
