THURSDAY EVENING UPDATE:

A fair amount of sun should grace our skies today, allowing for temperatures to reach the mid and upper 70s another time. Then on Saturday morning, a weak cold front slips through the region providing no big changes other than a slightly cooler, more refreshing fall-like air mass for the weekend. Even with the small change in temperatures, readings will likely remain a tad above normals for this time of year. There's still not a drop of rain in sight, at least for the next week.

It has more to do with the decreaseing levels of sunlight then the daytime temps, although cool nights help.

Here in Northeastern Pennsylvania, (at least where I live ) the leaves aren't as plentifull as in the past. I think most of them blew off from rain storms before they had a chance. What has remained is beautifull though.
Usually there is an arch of multicolor leaves bowing across a small road that goes along the creek to my house. Red, gold and deep purple maroon.
When the sun filters through it is like a fantasy.

Southern Oregon is right on time in regrads to the trees shedding there leaves..It is truly a beautiful sight.

However there is one rather odd thing going on here. There seems to be a rather high number of small fur bearing critters(skunks, foxs) that are being hit by vehicles. I had noticed this my self but did not think much of it tell some co workers where remarking about it. The in house "old timer" said that this was a sign of a bad winter.

Take that for what its worth. Shrug

No changes here; of course, I live in the Sonoran Desert. The only deciduous trees around here are the very rare cottonwoods and sycamores along the riverbanks, and there simply aren't that many riverbanks left in central Arizona.

Here in the Smokies there are still plenty ol leaves.The color is about 2 weeks later than normal with predicted peak (lower elevations) 2nd week of November. (higher elevations) last week of October. We are just now recieving our early morning frosts needed to cause the color to start. We need rain and no wind to make the colors last and stay brillant. Weather has been perfect with no haze on the mountains.

Well it is almost like spring here.. Still watering and mowing the lawn, and the trees are green.. The high today is 85 and tomorrow is forcast near 90.. and the long range 7 day forcast shows high temps in the mid to upper 80's lows in the mid 50's to 60.

All of this is way above normal.. the cooolest day we've had so far was near the end of September and that was a low of 46 and high was 68.

I can't remember it ever being this warm for this long this time of year in the 24 years I've been here.

VAl, I got a good chuckle out of the toad story.

We aren't quite in frost stage here in the Southwestern part of Virginia. The grass greened up after some rain. But the temperature is gradually dipping down. I haven't seen any frost as of yet. We've been in the 40's for lows, and the days are getting that cool feel to them.
