We are told at funerals that all the so called good and believers go straight to Heaven when they die? Of course every funeral I have been to, they have all been the good and believers, never been told this poor soul is lost in Hell! I always believed we would all be sleeping untill the second coming of Christ.

This is hope not something we know for sure. All we know is from the way we have been taught from childhood. When a dear friend has gone we only wish the best for them. That is why we do what you say. Lets hope the best for those gone and all wait to see the future and what it may hold. I wish there was more than faith that we each have but at this time thats it.

michigan_granny if you were allways told at funerals that the deseased was going ot heaven, you obviously have only gone to ones for a certain Church, and not a luthern one, military funeral, or a burial at sea.

The simple mater is no one living KNOWS what is going ot happen to everyone soul 100%, we can draw some rather good conlcusions tho, but in the end God has the final say.

Michigan Granny,

Yes you are correct the dead is in a sleeping state until the second coming of Christ; Time of final judgment. Then, you are reigning with Christ for eternity, or destroyed and cease to exist.

Yes we all sleep till the resurection. God is LOVE, NOT one to torture people with hell OR watching your living loved ones from heaven suffering on earth. This is a fairytale, that isn't Biblical, which has turned many from Gods infinite love, as the anti-christ's want. The Kingdom Of God is established on earth, THAT is what mankind has to look forward to, NOT some boring clouds to sit around on while watching the rest of the worlds people suffer.

I always wonder why in life we are sinners bound to hell if we do not repent, but when somebody dies nobody claims that the death person is bound to hell, perhaps because its out of respect for the family of the deceased. But once somebody die they seems to be all saved.

Now in history The ancient Hebrews had no concept of heaven. The dead who had led the most righteous lives were not taken to be with God after death. (Enoch and Elijah were exceptions. They were directly taken up to heaven to be with God. They never died; they never went to Sheol). See Genesis 5:24.

So actually before the Christianity the concept of life after death was a different one, and in was instances of people giving releasing the spirit to be with God.

Hell was not view by the Hebrews as a place of darkness or fire but a place where souls existed without thought, strength, or even consciousness.

Beliefs in Israel, 586 BCE to 332 BCE

Haven started to be more available to the death, with the introduction of Zoroastrianism The Babylonian army conquered the Southern Kingdom in 586 BCE and Zoroastrianism was introduce to the beliefs of the Israelis.

A final judgment will be held of each individual's soul after death

Heaven exists as a place of reward for the soul of those who have led good lives, faithful to God

Hell as a place of mild punishment for the soul of the others

An eventual battle between an all-good God and an all-evil Satan in which God wins

The earth would be cleansed of all impurities

Peoples' bodily resurrection, involving the rejoining of body and soul

People living on a cleansed earth, forever

The first Jewish writer to incorporate some of the ideas of Zoroastrianism was the prophet Ezekiel.

Then from there to the believes of after death in the resurrection and second coming of the Christ was elaborated after Christianity was born.
