WASHINGTON - Evangelicals, Republican women, Southerners and other critical groups in President Bush's political coalition are worried about the direction the nation is headed and disappointed with his performance, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

That unease could be a troubling sign for a White House already struggling to keep the Republican Party base from slipping over Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, Gulf Coast spending projects, immigration and other issues.

Sentiment about the nation's direction has sunk to new depths at a time people are anxious about
Iraq, the economy, gas prices and the management of billions of dollars being spent for recovery from the nation's worst natural disaster.

Only 28 percent say the country is headed in the right direction while two-thirds, 66 percent, say it is on the wrong track, the poll found.

"There is a growing, deep-seated discontentment and pessimism about the direction of the country," said Republican strategist Tony Fabrizio, who believes the reasons for their pessimism differ for those in one political party or another.

Among those most likely to have lost confidence about the nation's direction over the past year are white evangelicals, down 30 percentage points since November, Republican women, down 28 points, Southerners, down 26 points, and suburban men, down 20 points.

Looks like even the Republican Party Members are becoming Unhappy and Impatient with president Bush Administration. More wars, more conflicts and not Peace in view. Less then One Third of the Country thinks that Bush is doing the Right think and is leading Country in the Right Direction.

He's Going Down.

Does that mean we will be voting for Democrats next time? No, it means we are going be looking for more conservative leadership.

It means that someone like McCain and Guiliani will not have a shot at the Presidency. Whereas someone like Gingrich or Allen will have a better shot.

Republicans are mad because we have the Democrats taking a standing 8 count and Bush doesn't want to deliver the knockout blow.

Your "He's going down" quote means what? Are you aware he cannot run again?

Uh impeachment? Or no political life after this, like no more Gov. GWB or a run for senate.

Also yeah, go against McCain, the only good republican in power, why do republicans hate him so?

Republicans were out of power so long their natural stance is now stuck on attack.

Give 'em a little power and watch them circle up in a firing squad and shoot each other. It's all they know. Trying to run a country with a bumper sticker slogan is hard work. Trying to run three... pffft. Forget about it.

This is not surprise I knew about all this along with many others since Bush made the first blunder in his administration, "Invade Iraq"

It's just that so many people are a littler bit slower than others, that is why they still gave him another 4 years to straighten up.

It Ain't going to happen.

I don't feel that the republican women, southerners, evangalicals make much of a difference to the neo-cons. The groups that matter are the corporate CEOs that have discovered the king has no clothes. When business wheather big or small turns on any party, they're toast. Wall street controls the politics in this country and they bailed on the President last year.

What astonishes me is that it took so long for the southern, Christian women to find out that they had been chumped out. Next the Latinos will realize that it takes more than a few words in Spanish, to be a leader that represents them.
