He said the joint military exercises, involving Indian and Russian warships and airborne troops will be held at the training ground Mahajan in Rajasthan.

''Last week, a large squadron of five warships and one nuclear submarine of the Russian Pacific Fleet, sailed to the Indian Ocean, where the joint exercises with the Indian armed forces and fleet are planned in the mid-October,'' Itar-Tass news agency quoted Mr Ivanov as saying.

The Russians have been quite busy holding military exercises, first with China and now with India. It is also interesting to note that China has invited India to observe its military exercises. A very powerful military relationship seems to be forming between these 3 countries that could easily rival the dominance of NATO. This is a threat that the west should take very seriously.

Interesting. US relations with India are usually soured by the concern that India will go communist or have strong socialist tendencies. There's been a bit of a thaw recently tho, hopefully this won't freeze things up again.

It might also be sensible to see this in the light of other Russian-Chinese military exercises, and too see that as a possible counter-weight to US involvment in central asia, which is traditionally a 'geo-strategic' powerbase of the Russians.
