You already know from my profile what I think of this case but I want you to make a decision.

A summary: Mumia Abu-Jamal, an award winning journalist, was convicted of murder of a policeman, Officer Daniel Faukner. However, the evidence was not complete and the defending attorney was admittedly incompetent. The judge holds the record for sending more men to the death penalty than any other current judge in America (29 black men and two white). The prosecutor has since been disbarred for witholding evidence in another case. A mob hitman has come out and admitted his guilt in shooting Faukner. Millions believe in Mumia`s innocence or at least that he deserves another trial. Mumia attracted the hatred of Policemen because of his affiliation with the black panthers and his support for the radical, anti-authoritarian MOVE organization. What do you think.

Live from Deathrow is a must read. If you haven't read it then visit a library.

He's not the only political prisioner from the Cointelpro era that should be freed. Mutulu Shakur, Imam Jamil Al-Amin, and Leonard Peltier just to name a few, but no doubt the Voice is innocent...let em go.

FRY HIM
He did kill that cop or his brother did it and he wont give him up either way. Just because you are an "award winning journalist" doesnt mean you cant kill someone in an act of "rage" or "passion"!
You dont find it a little strange that Hes driving a cab and he comes across a policeman beating his brother so he gets out of the cab and assaults the cop (which I dont have a problem with if the cop was using excessive force) and then 2 shots are fired the cop goes down and so does Mumia ? I personally think his brother shot them both BUT the LAW says if you commit an act of force that causes the death of another that is not self defense then THATS MURDER. Same principle as two men robbing a liquer store and one of them shoots the clerk They are both guilty of MURDER.

Like the grenadier said:

Fry him

Of course there has been new "evidence" found, as hes supportters have had plenty of time to make up all kinds of lies.

But then again i really arent supportter of deaht penalty so, it should be transformed to "a life in prison".

But if mother #er shots a cop he must pay.

I'm actually in grad school, ready to go on the market as a journalist in January. Keep one fact in mind; Journalists are perfectly capable of bending words in their favor. This man has nothing to lose. He is perfectly capable of attracting bleeding heart lamen. He DID help orchestrate the murder of that police officer. There are plenty of journalists in this country that aren't setup whose views are much more extreme than this militants own.

First, someone already confessed to the crime.

Second, he is no longer awaiting death. His sentence was set aside because his rights were violated. He still sits on deathrow waiting for Pennsylvania to make a decision on whether they will hold yet another hearing when it's so obvious that he was the victim of a corrupt racist justice system.

again, Free Mumia

I think that Mumia was the victim of a police conspiracy just like MOVE was. Saphronia, I know you know about what happened to MOVE in philly. I will start a thread on that later, it is quite sad.

The police hated Mumia, because he was black and because he exposed them. He showed the corruption in law enforcement, blatant corruption, and for that he was jailed. The reason that Mumia was near Faukner was because the officer was beating Mumia`s brother. So really, if Mumia shot the officer, it was in defence and he should only be give manslaughter, for which the sentence is twenty years. Mumia`s imprisonment is achieving nothing, he should be free.

I wouldn't say it's achieving nothing Xaos. It's no doubt keeping a father from his children and a husband from his wife...the best thing about Mumia is that he doesn't appear bitter or broken by all of this. When you read his writings you can't even tell he's suffering from this horrible injustice.

And yes, I know about MOVE and that's the reason he was driving that cab that night because he had the guts to report the real.

Anyone who has ever been exposed to the legal system knows it is flawed.

There really is no question that the guy should be freed,at least until he gets retried or the case is dropped.

But the system can't do that unless it wants to admit to the whole world it is flawed.

Just think what a ruckus that would cause.

Black Panther doesnt do much for his defense.

Black Panthers themselves bordered on terrorists/criminals.

Joined a black panther site on Yahoo once because i was curious about what they were all about. All I found were anti white nazi style hatred and a gallery of pgotographs of black men raping white women with a thumbs up. Pretty much did it for me.

Noooooo! That is completely opposite from the Panthers. They were nothing like what you described. It was a yahoo group, not the real black panthers. The real panthers went defunct decades ago. A modern group has been started, but leaders of the original movement are against it and say that the new Black panthers are bad. Here is a site that should tell you anything you want to know about the black panthers, Huey Newton, or any other Panther leader.

And Bob, Mumia won the Peabody Award, according to Terry Bisson. The link is at the top.

The Black Panther Movement was founded on Malcolm X teachings. They are nothing like Skadi described them.

Of course the Panthers were criminals and terrorist. Though most of the Panthers were about social change, some were far more militant and wanted systemic change. These few were even prepared to organize everyone and do armed battle to get it. That's why they were so dangerous. Not only did they unite the black population under the banner of socialism, but the Native, poor disenfranchised White, Brown, and Asian americans as well. They were not a racist organization by any means. They help every race start their own copy-cat movements.

xaos: he never won a Peabody. (the Peabody site has a 'winners' search, you won't find him there - and, if you were to email them, like I did once, they'll respond "NO HE NEVER WON A PEABODY AWARD)

It's just yet another Mumia lie.

That's not a Mumia lie...if anyone wants to know the awards Mumia won all they have to do is go to his site.

Bob88 does this everytime Mumia's name is brought up it's like a lil game.

link to the thread.

Don't know what his problem is with Mumia. Maybe he would like to share his thoughts on the case.

Allright, Ill take your word for it.

The link you gave me Xaos dont work, its some admin site and stuff.

I am guessing then that the yahoo group is a knockoff then, a bunch of sick ass wannabes?

Ill do a google search on black panthers and see some other information on them.
