I think you'll find those instructions are for images within posts.

If you want to resize you're profile picture you'll need to use some kind of image program, I use something called “The Gimp”

It’s free, but it requires a little bit of fiddling to get working.

Tell you what to save time I’ve resize it for you and uploaded it for you.

You should be able to just right click on it now and download it

thats because the code to resize an image only reduces the appearance of the image within actual posts. It doesn't reduce the file size. To physically shrink an image I ususally open it up in paint and use the stretch and skew option . I think there are also some online programs that will shrink images down, some of which I believe are mentioned in the thread you just linked to.

Hey Questor, the resizing option only works in thread posts. Not avatar images.
