Delegates to the Constitutional Convention held their last meeting on September 17, 1787. This meeting was for the purpose of letting the delegates sign it before it was ratified by states in the new nation. It was signed by a majority of them. usgovinfo.about.com...
It will be celebrated on Friday September 16, 2005.
The complete Constitution of the USA, including Preamble and all 27 amendments, can be found by going to usgovinfo.about.com... which is a link from the previous site. Read it, if you wish. It is your right, although it should be an obligation. See for yourself what the Legal System and the Media are talking about. Some of it concerns your personal legal rights. For certain you ought to make sure you know them. If you do not know and understand your rights and obligations, you might have them slipping away before you know it.

"...In 2004 Congress designated September 17 as a day to memorialize the Constitution. This September will be the first time America sees a nation-wide effort to observe and remember its founding with the designation of Constitution Day..."
cqpress.com...

"...President George W. Bush signed a bill on December 8th, 2004 (public law 108-447) which designates every September 17th as Constitution Day..."
www.constitutionday.com...
Since the first quote in the box says that "This September will be the first time America sees a nation-wide effort", I wonder why it has been kept so quiet? I have not seen or heard much of this new Holiday.
To Americans everywhere, have a good Holiday. To all citizens of this planet, I hope you have a good day as well.

I can remember Constitution Day for about the last 10 years. It's never been a big holiday though.

I agree everyone should go read the Constitution and all the Amendments. Remember, the Constitution is an agreement (contract) between the People and Government, and not People to People or Business to People.

Think of the Constitution as the rules to a game. When either player breaks the rules, game over. It's up to the People to make sure the game is played fairly. That is part of our role in the game.

I love that analogy. I don't think I ever heard it put that way before.

I've always like that analogy. More people seem to understand it.

I used to explain that is was contract written by people and signed by people. That makes People the Parents of government and the enforcers of the Constitution. Therefore, People created government and government is our child. And the Constitution is the "chains" that enslaves (or binds) government to the People and keeps them out of our lives. The government (just like a child) will always gnaw at that chain, but it is our job to stop it. Government is a child that needs the attention of its Parents and it is our job to treat it and discipline it as if it is our child.

Unfortunately, people didn't seem to understand or grasp that idea. So I went to the game analogy.

Every citizen of the USA should read the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution and its Bill of Rights.........

If you do.....you will find that both parties within our government no longer adhear to those values......

.......primarly because of the "rights" and their abuses that major corporations now own over the legistation of this country that our founding fathers so wisely constructed.

Since 1889, corporations have been provided "rights" under the 4th and 14th amendments that should only be assigned to "human citizens" of this country......those rights have provided the corporation a path of unaccountablity to the nation and of which any CEO employed within that corporation can deny responsiblity of.....

.. the corporation has become an "amoral person" of outright influence in the future of Ameica's decline.

As a result, large multinational corporations are guided by the rule of their charter (or corporate constitution) which direct maximizing profits while expending costs to any outside source.........regardless of its impact on our communities, the well being of US citizens, the environment and the national security of this country.....

...This corporate cancer has spread to other parts of the world under the mask of "democrazing cultures" and "creating economic growth" that will lift the underclass out of poverty and make the World a free and safer place.........

.......but the real results are enslaving labor throughout the 3rd world....while ruining the ecology of their areas and creating more hatred and terror towards America....while in this country the results have seen the destruction of the middle class through outsourcing and importing illegal immigrate labor..........

They accomplish this power over our government by playing into the greedy hands of those desiring power through campaign contributions and lobbying in Wash. They end up manipulating our political parties and their leaders into puppets for their causes........

We have been warned of corporations becoming more powerful that our government from our founding fathers right up to Eisenhower....

We need not a constitutional day......

.....but instead we ned a new political constitutional party in this country that is unwilling to accept corporate influence (money) in any way shape or form so that the rules of the constitution can be exercised and applied in this country in such a manner that we can once again achieve the greatness that is fast fading from our landscape....

Yes our republic needs a free enterprise system (socialism and communism are failed ideologies).........but a system that is managed in such a manner that the constitution and bill of rights remain supreme to the citizens of this country and that this free enterprise system is not allowed to compromise the value of our community and its ablity to sustain a healthy environment to that community.............and especially not allowed to compromise the national security of this country through their blatent economic abuse which is exercised through free trade laws........

Our form of government can only work with moral individuals..........without a moral imperative we cannot survive as a nation - James Madison

Yeah really. People need to actually read the thing. I printed it out from a web site.

Problem is, most people don't care what goes on with the Constitution so long as they can become burping recliners in front of Monday-night football....

Yes sitting on recliners watch football all day is the complanency that America has become........

Too many Americans have their heads in the sand.........they are too busy with their own personal debt to look at the moral debt of the constitution this government and its influencing corporations are serving down our throats...

The most responsible and potentially enlighten people of this country are too focused on their mortgage, SUV payments and college funds for their kids...........they are so busy with everything else and only get their news from corporate owned news outlets that have their understanding of what is going on in this country and world either sadly lacking of the big picture or completely twisted by corporate media propaganda............

and the elite of this country don't get it............

........how can a guy like Bush who marvels at a grocery store scanner wondering "when did they get these things in stores?".........

.....how can he........ever realize that illegal immigrates are not just "good ole hard working folks looking for a honest days work" but are the serfdom class being ecouraged to work in this country by large corporations that are maximizing profits by getting rid of a working wage and the America working class in the process......

........and how can he realize that the jobs "American's don't want"........are many of the jobs that American youth and students need after school and during the summer months that are no longer available to them??

You can bet your butt that Bush has never found an honest day's work in his life..........that's the reason why he and so many like him within the elite class are clueless.............

and you are hearing this from a poster who is in the upper 10% wage earnings of this country and has been a card carry Republican for 26 years..............but now just a very fustrated and disallusioned republican today.....

The difference for me is I live alone with no wife or kids so I have time to read, learn and research what is going on here..........

PERCEPTION...it sucks kinda.

Because we Americans enjoy our lives...our tv...our recliners...our games...and yes our beer--its concluded that our head in the sand?

And out of the sand would be? Dogging Dubya on ats? It'll be what it is, homie.

My perception: An American that pays his mortgage and SUV payments, then still has ends to put money away for his kids education, is working his/her ass off and deserves to park it right in that leather lazyboy, pull that lever, and click that clicker.
