Lot's of states are now doing what they call a "one day class".
Thats where they take a cantadate and put them in a room full of other cantadates and go through the three degrees of masonery.
The reason for this is that supposidly people dont have enough time to go through them in the normal mannor.
The bad thing is that they dont learn the degrees for themselves(unless they take the time to do so), and if they do it kind of makes the "one day class" kind of useless.
I think it's just a way to get people who are really interested in joining other fractions (like scottish, york, or shriners in without the formalities. And to me that makes it bad for (blue) masonic lodges themselves.

I think the jury is still out on this one. Most people I have talked with say they have had mix results with the One day class. Others have told me that the rate in which they get active Masons is about the same as with the old method. I have seen many one dayers come back and ask if they can prove up in the lodge in the old way. They seem to want show the old timers that they are real in their masonry. Some times I look at the one day class and think that we are turning into the Rotory Club.
