Kurile Island

Russia and Japan are in a dispute over the Kurile Island.

The disputed islands are:
Kunashiri Island
Etorofu Island
Habomai Islands
Shikotan Island



They are called "Northern Territories" or "Southern Chishima" by Japan.

As I was looking over the map, I saw that these islands give Russia a great position if anything comes up between Russia and Japan. If Russia gives these islands back then Japan will gain the position that can make war harder for Russia.

here are my opinions:

1: they are more japanese names than russian names.
or
2: give half to russia, half to japan

These islands were Japanese until 1945. Russia never returned them.

Russia has 9 time zones between Moscow and Japan. Russian 'defense zone' or whatever would hardly suffer. Russia can't even feed the people on Kurile islands, and Japan could use the land. Since they took them over in the war and the war's over, it'd be nice to give them back.

japan only got them in 1875.

it wasn't historically japanese
