Eywitness: Police Would not Let Us out of NO

I just heard a most disturbing report on "This American Life". A visiting EMT (tourist) from San Francisco said that the authorities (local police, national guard) stopped them (a group of 8 white tourists) and hundreds of black locals from crossing the bridge to Metarie, where it was dry. She seemed convinced that the motivation was racial. They did not want to let the black hordes into their (white) city.

By the way I have been to NOLA several times and I must say that some of the white people I met there were BY FAR the most racist folks I have ever had the displeasure to meet.

Also a nurse who was trapped in the convention center said the police drove by them with water trucks without stopping. She characterized the so-called "looters" as heros who kept them alive and the police as criminally, even murderously, incompetent.

I am ashamed to be an American, but I really don't know what to do. Maybe a new political movement will come out of this.
