Foreign fighters and over 214 "terrorists" have been killed or captured over the last 8 days in a stepped up military offensive around the town of Tal Afar, situated near the Iraq border with Syria. US forces announced on Thursday that they were preparing to launch the offensive around the town to flush out insurgents in the region and border security with Syria has been tightened.

80 percent of residents have left the border town with us led forces arresting all male townsfolk left over the age of 20. US forces say the town has long been a short cut for potential terrorists to join the insurgency and the town has been under the insurgents control for quite some time.

Is Syria agreeing those fights on their borders or not?

I'm surprised they aren't meeting much resistance since that is supposed to be an insurgent stronghold.

There have only been 11 US deaths in the last 10 days and only one of those was in Tal Afar.

When they fought other stronghold like Fallujah and Mosul the death toll was much, much higher.
