I was looking around on line and decided to go to our local newsite. It isWKYT.COM. I happened to look at the radar and it looks extremely strange.

It looks like it is pouring down everywhere in Kentucky, yet it is not raining at all anywhere near here. If there are any weather people out there, please explain this to me. Thanks.

They want to do away with national wheather reports for this very reason. So you and i dont ask any questions.

I thought that the solar flare might have had something to do with it, but it is currently dark here. Not to say that the electromagnetic forces couldn't be affecting it, but it is strange.

Not sure where in KY (no not the jelly)
you are
but here in ohio in champaign county we had a
storm come through earlier and it looks like another
is on the way. They are moving southeast. But I will
say the radar did not look like that. It was just a line
moving in with a cold front behind it. I am no weather
expert though.

I have seen that before but I am unable to think of
where. I do know there was a thread a while back
on the same type of patterns that were popping up
all over the place. If I remember correctly they were
mostly concetrated to the north from western NY
to over to ND, south to KY & into canada. Although
they were popping up all over the country. I will try
to find the thread but it was atleast 6 months maybe
even a year ago by now.

Sorry I am unable to find anything about it.
I do remember some were saying it was a glitch with
the doppler radar. I honestly do not know.

I know sometimes our local radar shows that and they say it is moisture in the higher atmosphere that does not reach the ground due to dry air close to ground. Just a thought.

Let me flex a meteorological muscle here:

it's called "virga" and is indeed precip before it reaches the ground. Now, anomolies in the atmosphere can cause interference with radar equipment that also resembles virga, so if there was no moisture at the given time of that feeback, I presume interference is the culprit

Something like this happened a last summer on this site. A whole bunch started showing up like that, and we learned that Doppler Radar has two modes to it; one for checking precipitation, the other from looking at the amount of pollution in the air. I believe its called Clear Air Mode.

I live in Kentucky. Kentucky hasn't received a drop of rain since the remnants of Katrina. The weather map is odd. Perhaps just a computer glitch?
