I don't know what all these people are whining about. The military are PROUD at the way the acted!

www.dod.mil...

We waited until we had enough force in place to do an overwhelming force.

Damn them drowning dying civilians, don't they know how dangerous they are to us military types?

Went in with police powers, 1,000 National Guard military policemen under the command and control of the adjutant general of the State of Louisiana, Major General Landreneau, yesterday shortly after noon stormed the convention center, for lack of a better term, and there was absolutely no opposition, complete cooperation, and we attribute that to an excellent plan, superbly executed with great military precision. It was rather complex.

What brave souls the soldiers and the military are!!!! They stormed the convention center after fortifying themselves and getting ready. So what if it took 3 or 4 days, We are the masters of storming civilian populated centers, full of women, children, the elderly and the dying!

It was executed absolutely flawlessly in that there was no violent resistance, no one injured, no one shot, even though there were stabbed, even though there were weapons in the area. There were no soldiers injured and we did not have to fire a shot.

Well aren’t we amazed, the military force so overwhelmed the massed mob of dying people, of starving, of thirsty, of elderly, that no one attacked them!!! By golly you just have to watch these refugees, if they had gone in earlier who knows what they might have done!! But Every soldier survived unscathed!!! Its a miracle of modern military tactics, those guys deserve a medal!

Some people asked why didn't we go in sooner. Had we gone in with less force it may have been challenged, innocents may have been caught in a fight between the Guard military police and those who did not want to be processed or apprehended, and we would put innocents' lives at risk. As soon as we could mass the appropriate force, which we flew in from all over the states at the rate of 1,400 a day, they were immediately moved off the tail gates of C-130 aircraft flown by the Air National Guard, moved right to the scene, briefed, rehearsed, and then they went in and took this convention center down.

Ho Hah! They took the convention center down!!!
They subdued a massive dangerous force of distressed people!! Such bravery is unsurpassed in the annals of history.

Those that were undesirable to re-enter the convention center were segregated from the people that we wanted to provide water, shelter and food. Those people were processed to make sure they had no weapons, no illicit dugs, no alcohol, no contraband, and then they were escorted back into the building.

Now there's a controlled safe and secure environment and a shelter and a haven as they await movement out of that center for onward integration to their normal lives.

That’s right!
It was controlled, safe, and secure, for us!
Hell those people terrorized for days don't matter, they are used to having weapons pointed at them, but WE had to protect ourselves.

It's a great success story -- a terrific success story.

Damn right it was! You should be proud of your efforts, think of all the money you saved in tax dollars by letting the people die like that. Now you don't have to house them, feed them or care for them any longer. Long live the military!!! Soldiers and fine gentlemen! They overcame women, babies, and stamped their authority on the dead and the dying!

What more can be said?

Actually, alot.

However, were I to put voice to my feelings on the matter, the language involved would result in me being perma-banned, I'm sure.

In otherwords, we had to wait until the people were either dead or so weak from hunger and disease that they couldn't fight back if they wanted too.

What a success story for the military, thou it was always about the military anyway. Live training drills like this don't come around very often.

Must have been a tough call for everyone involved.

Trying to get choppers in to evacuate the people while the people were shooting at them, and the press showing the world people begging for help, while the choppers were trying to help the people who were begging for help while getting shot at by the civilians.

Nothing patriotic souls who risk their lives for their citizens love more than practicing their willingness to risk their lives for their citizens on their citizens while their citizens their willing to die for are threatening them and shooting at them and begging for their help. Fun Drills, and pics for the album!!!

With Clinton and Senior (what's that all about anyway?) parading themselves right after Katrina passed and the media still reporting that NO came out of it relativeley unscathed... You just knew something sinister was about to take place.

Show me a bullet hole in a chopper.
Show me a dead cop.
Show me a rape victem.

Show me anything to remotely suggests that any of that violance actually happened and wasn't just a media creation sparked by rumors and misunderstandings that is now a convinant excuse.

I'm sure there were some incedents, but nothing, NOTHING, these people could have done could have warrented the delays in getting in there.

Meanwhile, Back At The Armchair

Criticizing people who are actively risking their lives to help others is a pastime I am quite proud to refrain from.

I have plenty of choice words for various levels of bureaucracy, but when it comes to lambasting those who have been working around the clock pulling people out by boat, bus, truck and helicopter, I can't think of anything lower than heckling them from the comfort and safety of the Internet.

Am I proud of those who are on the scene helping people? You're damn right I am.

Am I proud of those who choose to belittle their efforts from afar? No, I most certainly am not.

As more information becomes available, hopefully we'll see which perspective is best supported by the facts.

Majic i dont think Net Chicken was intending for this thread to be that and i dont think it is.I`d put money on the regular army guys wanted to get in there a lot quicker. No one is or should i say no one has as i`ve understood it to ridicule average Joe rescue guy.

But those who control them were slow and they are the ones in charge and they are bragging on their web site like NetChicken is reporting.

Is what i understood this thread to be about.

Put simply if the you think the gross incompetence could`nt get any worse, here you go the adminatration is bragging about how good they are.

Who would have guessed they would be blowing their own horns?

Oi!

Don't get me wrong.
Anyone who's actively doing anything to help gets my respect.

What I have an issue with here, is the notion of backslapping and congrats being given to themselves where it simply is not due.

"Storming" a building occupied by scared and hungry survivers is not something to be proud of.
Not having to shoot your own people who just want help, is not bragging rights.

Pulling someone off a rooftop, is somethig to be proud of.
Letting a child know that things are going to be really going to be alright is something to be proud of.
Giving more than you can afford is something to be proud of.

See where I'm going with this?

Reading those original comments made me feel like removing the speaker from the gene pool for the betterment of all humanity.

Damn! A Super Moderator goes to New Orleans, LA. Comes up with a speedy plan to save lives and is successful in his heroic endeavours. He then comes back after a successful tour of Louisiana, where he is now famous for his heroic efforts, and writes a wonderfully unslanted article helping to garner support and a little human kindness for people who have lost everything, and for people who are trying to help them get a new start.

Or ... Hmmm .... Did you perhaps not have such a successful plan to save lives, eliminate crime, and make the world safe for democracy? Maybe it's just better to sit at home, behind your keyboard and make nasty comments about people who are saving lives and doing the best they can with the stress of a do nothing, lip service, government, an emergency management group that can not find it's butt in a well lit room full of mirrors, and a really influential "super moderator", going under the name of Net Chicken.

When you do something worthy then come on back from there and tell us how to do it. Otherwise... I think the community might be better served if you weren't so quick to judge and condemn.

Just as an aside. I have an adopted son who has served two tours in Iraq. He came home about a year ago, and got married, got out of the service and settled in. As recently as one month ago he finally got a job that he wanted with the County Sheriff's department. Last week, in 2 days he recieved his Reserve call up order and within one more day was in the middle of Jefferson Parrish, helping the local law enforcement keep order and helping to move the people to places where they aren't subject to disease, poisons, violence, hopelessness, and despair.

We, his friends and famiy are kicking in with support to help his wife make it through this crap until he comes home. It's not easy, and nobody really likes the way it happened, but we damn sure don't beat on the people doing their jobs.

What have you done lately?

Ban away ...

Net chicketn, If this is, somehow, offensive to your sensitivities, it is, in fact, too bad you didn't read the first one I wrote.

I have to follow the orders of those people the citizens appoint over me. I'm not authorized to say how I feel all the time, but I do my best to follow the orders of those people the people appoint over me.

And one story I heard did not come from the media, it came from my fire chief's brother.

Another story I heard cam from an individual from the rescue squadron, a HH-60 crew chief.

SSgt John P. G., USAF

P.S. =

I hear you. And, I learned a long time ago not to trust the media entirely while watching a live report from Iraq, as I looked out the window and did not see it.

I am sure that when the military bravely went in to NO, they did it in a cordinated, controlled, and decisive manner. I am not critisizing the people who actually did something but the butt covering brass who try to turn a humanitarian effort into some sort of military victory when the entire country saw the opposite, is crap.

Tto stand by when people were dying, to do nothing for at least 2 days when people drowned, and then to say it was a success is deplorable, Silence on the topic would be the best statement to make, not backslapping bravado.

To have the gall to say they "It's a great success story -- a terrific success story." when at the time the entire country were in uproar for them to do something, is nothing more than spin to try and justify their failings.

But get this .... they didn't want to go in because some people were shooting at them. I'm sorry but these are soldiers, they should be USED to being shot at, they have tactics, stratagies, and equipment to deal with being shot at.

They arrested 2 guys for shooting at a heliocopter with a pistol. Are they not able to protect themselves from pistol shot? These excuses and self justification is unworthy of them. We are talking about a military that repremanded a couple of heliocopter pilots for going in without authorization the day after the hurricane. THATS when they should have acted.

Dang it NC, you have this annoying ability to take the wind out of my sails when I get all wound up about things.

How dare you undermine my pompous, dramatically self-righteous indignant chest-beating? Can you even begin to imagine how hard I worked to carefully tune that flame to get it just so?

Such a fine flame doused so callously! For shame, NC, for shame. :shk:

Won't somebody please think of the children... er, soldiers?

Um, yeah, I kind of figured you really weren't bagging on the people actually doing the rescuing, and yes, I'm totally with you that some of the spin whirling out of the various Bush administration orifices really blows holes in my theories that these guys are actually quite skilled at information warfare.

Then again, maybe this only proves my theory. How, you say? I'm glad you asked. Please, have a seat. Care for something to drink? Sorry I don't have coffee. I'm not allowed to drink coffee, because it makes me hyper, you see.

Now, where was I? Ah yes. The CIA does the “we're too incompetent to be feared routine”, and I'm thinking the Bush Dynasty is also on to that game, courtesy of Bush Sr.

Witness the grand irony of Dubya's Democratic rivals claiming he's an idiot. In buying into that meme, they are effectively saying that the guy who's been mopping the floor with them is an idiot, which implies some rather unflattering things about the political opponents heckling him from the sidelines.

Personally, I think his “good old boy” routine is pure cinema., made for TV. Dubya is a genuine insider, and his aw-shucks gimmick is straight out of the populist playbook.

Thus I am skeptical of the brazen incompetence we are seeing. Of course, the simplest explanation is that the Bush administration actually is rife with incompetence.

But then, things are rarely what they seem in modern politics, which is why we're here.

If I'm taking your words in the rhetoric you intended, I agree with you. Just don't quote me, or tell my bosses, please.

Yes, we do. And at the end of the day it is unfortunate that we have to follow and abide the orders of those that the civilian sector appoint over us, especially when it hinders us, and ties our hands. We (the military members) are accountible to and work for whoever the people (non-military) choose.

They arrested 2 guys for shooting at a heliocopter with a pistol. Are they not able to protect themselves from pistol shot? These excuses and self justification is unworthy of them.

I'm not sure if the military plane was one that was fired upon, but if it was a military helo, then the question is: "Did we have the standing order to fire upon civilians that were hostile?". If not, then we could not defend ouselves, and the answer to your question is: YES, we were able to, but not authorized to do so.

Having just spent the last 30 minutes or so reading, and re reading the transcript made by Lt. Gen. H. Steven Blum, chief, National Guard Bureau , i am still sat here in disbelief at what he has had to say.

He seems to have had some kind of deluded fixation that he was going into battle. I thought they were actually going to give some aid to these people?
Maybe he mixed up his notes with some other Lt. General who served in the Gulf?

By my reckoning, he needs some serious surgery and also a shovel.
1. surgery to remove his head from his a**e
2. The shovel to clear all the bull s**t away.
